Director - Advanced Analytics - DIRECTV - Los Angeles


Job Description

DIRECTV is looking for a talented, highly motivated individual with a strong quantitative orientation, a broad knowledge of advanced analytic methods, hands-on data analysis skills and exceptional strategic thinking to join and lead our Advanced Analytics team within the Marketing and Business Analytics organization. This senior-level individual will lead their team in the development, application and interpretation of advanced analytic methodologies and processes designed to drive profitable growth (via acquisition, retention, and revenue maximization). This includes segmentation, propensity modeling, statistical methods, experimental techniques, etc. Part of this person's responsibilities will include exploring, testing and validating new, advanced approaches and techniques to elevate an already strong, robust, established team. One of the most important aspects of this position and each member of their team is to take very large quantities of customer data and analytic results and condense it down into a coherent story with clear, easy to follow conclusions, implications informed by knowledge of the business, and actionable recommendations. This position provides considerable internal visibility at the SVP, EVP and CXO levels. The Analytics organization is comprised of 60+ individuals and is an integral part of setting strategic direction and making decisions at DIRECTV.
 
• Lead advanced analytics projects and initiatives across that are leveraged across the breadth of the Sales and Marketing organization and by the Finance organization and the Enterprise at large
• Conduct modeling to optimize acquisition and retention efforts, voluntary and involuntary churn propensity modeling, churn forecasting, profitability segmentation, lifetime value, statistical methods
• Must be aware at all times of details involving the DIRECTV data model, data environment and data elements as these factors will always play an integral part in formulation of the analytic plan and interpretation of the results
• Help to establish new processes, methodologies and benchmarks as appropriate
• Brings new thinking, out-of-the-box ideas and a fresh approach to the business at all times
• Identify, explore, test and validate new data sources, advanced techniques
• Effectively work with cross-functional teams and/or with various departments that include, but not limited to: Revenue Marketing, Business Analytics, Business Intelligence, IT, Customer Care, Field Operations, Digital Online       Marketing, Revenue-Strategy-Planning, Retention Marketing, and Finance
• Position will manage a team of 7-8
• Periodic overnight travel is required

Desired Skills & Experience

• Must possess at least 12-15+ years experience in hands-on modeling/advanced analytics - accessing, compiling, and analyzing large volumes of data into concise and precise information utilizing tools/databases such as Oracle, Teradata, SAS, SQL, Cognos, SPSS, R.
• Must possess bachelor's degree in mathematics, statistics, computer science, quantitative methods, or related quantitative field; preference will be given to candidates with an advanced degree
• Experience in cable, broadcast, satellite and/or television industry is not required but highly desirable
• Previous work experience in consumer-marketing organizations, retention and or loyalty environments, analysis of subscription-based sales is highly desirable. Experience with very large transactional data sets is required.
• Must demonstrate extensive experience with hands-on modeling, analysis, strategic thinking ability
• Must be able to convey analytic findings into strategic implications and actionable recommendations
• Must be detail-oriented and able to work in high-stress environment with constantly shifting priorities
• Must be outgoing and able to work cross-functionally within a large, complex organization
• Must be able to think on their feet, reactively in response to questions and proactively in leadership
• Must possess a desire to engage with business and executives to present, defend, debate the analyses
• Must possess exceptional communications skill - oral, written, presentation
• Must possess expert abilities in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft PowerPoint
