Director of Development Delta Research and Educational Foundation - DuPont Circle
Job Description
Job Summary
The Development Director will be responsible for overall strategic direction, leadership and management of all marketing and fundraising strategies designed to broaden the awareness and support of The Delta Research& Educational Foundation and its work. This person will forge private sector partnerships and fundraising alliances that will enable The Delta Foundation to expand its reach and services, diversify individual and corporate giving channels and increase contributed income. The Development Director will supervise one Donor Development Associate position and will report to the Director of Operations.
Key Responsibilities
1. Leads the development of the foundation’s fundraising strategy. Develops an annual and multi-year plan, including fundraising objectives and prospect development and budget.
2. Researches and identifies new fundraising sources, with emphasis on corporations, corporate foundations and private foundations.
3. Develop a strategic plan for fundraising to traditional sources including direct mail, online appeals, major donor solicitation, planned giving, telemarketing campaigns, leadership circle gifts and planned giving.
4. Identify and engage new prospects and sources of income for the organization and represent The Delta Foundation in fundraising endeavors.
5. Writes proposals, grants and other materials in support of fundraising efforts.
6. Manages day-to day aspects of fundraising program, including communications with funders and grant reporting.
7. Establish close working relationship with board and president, including updating and communicating on a regular basis regarding fundraising progress.
8. Serves as a member of the management team, and participates in the development and implementation of strategic and tactical plans as well as general management of the foundation.
9. Supervises one staff position, Development Associate.
Desired Skills & Experience
Qualifications
· Minimum seven years experience in increasingly responsible positions.
· Bachelor’s Degree in marketing, nonprofit administration, business or related area.
· Diverse fundraising background with targeted donors: small donors or sponsors, major donors, corporations, family foundations, etc.
· Proven success in generating annual revenue at the $500,000+ level
· Driven self-starter with a demonstrated track record of success in developing and executing on a long-term, multi-tiered strategy
· Strong analytical, writing, organizational and planning skills.
· Excellent project management skills including influencing, leading, negotiating, and delegating abilities.
· Enthusiastic, passionate strategic thinker who embraces the mission and core operating principles of The Delta Foundation
