Job Description
JOB SUMMARY: Serve as a Director within Systems Engineering. Manage SE personnel and budget resources. Provide oversight and technical analysis across all engineering segments (satellite, launch, ground and operations). Support multi discipline team comprised of launch vehicle, spacecraft, RF, optics, ground processing and image processing technical experts. Document, verify and test all program wide interfaces. Collect, validate and verify technical requirements. Ensure documented requirements will meet necessary performance goals. Conceive, develop and implement solutions to problems and anomalies. Establish the overall system performance and help set design objectives for future systems. Prepare portions of engineering and R&D proposals. Evaluate technical proposals and assist with evaluating new business areas. Perform satellite simulations and risk assessments for proposals and red team reviews. May lead review teams to evaluate technical, cost and schedule progress of various engineering projects.
Responsibilities

Perform highly complex analysis, test, design and/or development. Perform preliminary/original design trades and analysis. Perform anomaly resolution and conduct special studies.

Develop strategies for analysis, test and design. Document program requirements and develop detailed objectives and detailed planning, conceptual designs and risk analysis.

Develop and oversee test programs to evaluate new materials or the assign portion of the project/program. Review test data.

Lead in the development of reports and design notes. Review and approve analysis of team members.

Interact with internal and external customers. Assist the customer in defining system requirements and in the generation of specifications for products or sub systems.

Provide technical guidance and direction to engineering team in the design, test, production and maintenance phases of a project.

Develop and present materials for project related briefings including design reviews to be given to internal and external customers.

Support new business and prepare proposal material. Generate engineering schedules and cost estimates for proposal and projects. May track the progress of tasks within the project.

Perform supervisory responsibilities to include career counseling, goal setting and daily monitoring of junior team members performance.

Education
A Bachelors Degree (BA/BS) in Chemistry, Engineering, Math, Physics or equivalent experience is preferred. An advanced degree is a plus.
Experience
Twenty+ years of satellite engineering experience is preferred.
Computer Environment
Strong computer skills utilizing Windows, MS applications, Excel, etc. Must be able to operate a PC and view source materials.
Additional Skills / Communication / Certifications / Licenses
Advanced skills in satellite tasking and operations desired.
Some supervisory experience desired. May assist with employee mentoring of junior employees and advise on hiring decisions
In depth knowledge of remote sensing and image processing theory, methods and applications preferred.
Experience solving real-world problems and developing new engineering solutions for imaging preferred.
Experience with geospatial image processing software such as ENVI, IDL or Imagine preferred.
Experience using Satellite Tool Kit (STK), Matlab, and satellite tasking/collection systems desired.
Interacts with all levels of the organization.
Excellent communication skills required.
May be asked to author technical papers or present materials at government and industry forums.
Security Clearance
Due to the technical nature of the position, must be a US Citizen. Ability to apply for and hold a National Security Clearance preferred.
Travel Requirement
Occasional domestic travel with overnight stays required approximately 5 - 10% of the time. There is a possibility of overseas travel.
