Job Description
Fujitsu Network Communications is looking for a Systems Engineering Director with experience in the Engineering Design and Development of telecommunication systems and has demonstrated excellent technical and management leadership skills. This position will define, plan and manage the systems engineering functional discipline relating to product definition/specification, architecture, design, development, and system verification. The director is a significant contributor, decision maker and strategic partner in the organization that will directly or indirectly influence Product Definition and Technical direction of Programs and Products. The director will be the key driver for generating technology roadmaps in line with Network Evolution and Product Roadmaps.
Duties and Responsibilities:
* Provide leadership and technical direction for assigned organizational responsibilities, programs, and personnel.
* Develops, participates as, and leads a team of Systems Engineers.
* Interact with product planning and technical leaders to implement the technical solutions across multiple disciplines for producing successful products.
* Drive measurable goals for technical product performance through direct involvement in establishing product and system requirements. Meet with Product Planning and translate the customer's requirements into product system requirements.
* Proactively use an integrated product development approach to include all engineering technical disciplines involved in the development and delivery of new products. Work through other Functional Leads for the integration of the design components of the product into a complete system that meets customer and system requirements and seeing that the engineering portion of the project plan is integrated properly and realistically into the overall project plan. Works closely with Project Manger in all phases of project cycles.
* Review and influence testing strategies and plans to insure full verification of product design against system requirements.
* Directs the preparation of technical feasibility and proposals for new products.
* Lead the Platform and Product definition process and develop/maintain multi-year technology roadmaps that remain consistent with market requirements and Network Evolution vision.
* When emerging technology capabilities are identified, advocate potential product opportunities to the Product Planning team.
* Assures design modularity and adherence to consistent design rules and architectures-in support of the Platform strategy to maximize re-use, product consistency and scalability.
* Promote technical excellence within own section and support groups through design / technical review participation, lessons learned awareness and application, and technical innovation / growth fostering.
* Establish and maintain relationships with required external and internal interfaces to ensure that customer requirements are understood and being achieved.
* Establish / modify / monitor overall system engineering requirements, timing, and resources allocation in support of Program Management to meet / exceed business objectives and goals.
* Manage Systems Engineering budget and deliverables to various projects for timely delivery of products to market
* Facilitate and contribute to FNC Process Improvement activities in general and SE process improvement activities in particular to improve overall product delivery in terms of schedule, quality, and cost.
Required Skills and Education
* Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Master's preferred)

Required Experience
* Cross-functional background in Electrical, Mechanical, Software, Manufacturing and Systems Engineering.
* Experience in Optics/Photonics, Data Protocols/Ethernet, and SONET/OTN background is highly desired.
* A history of working with Product Management on product definition.
* A history of strong engineering leadership, functional management, or project management.
* 10 or more years of experience system engineering leadership.
* Work cross-functionally and experience with product roadmaps, product definition, and working with Product Planning, Business Development and/or Product Management.
* Ability & willingness to travel
