Vice President of Internal Audit Quintiles - Raleigh



Job Description

PURPOSE
Develop and manage an independent internal audit function that identifies and fulfills the current and emerging needs for a review and assessment function serving multiple stakeholders including the Audit Committee. 
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Know and understand the business of Quintiles, its organization and management systems, and its policies and procedures, including its accounting policies, practices and procedures.
  • Develop and execute a defined audit process compliant with professional (IIA) standards and with appropriate audit programs and metrics.
  • Present to the Audit Committee the annual risk assessment and audit plan including periodic updates of status and changes required in the plan.
  • Present to management and the Audit Committee the results of audits, particularly significant audits, and the details of management’s corrective actions.
  • Manage Audit Committee compliance with charter and quarterly Audit Committee agendas.
  • Work in partnership with other company executives to monitor and assess the design and operation of cost-effective internal controls, and to eliminate redundant or inefficient procedures where necessary.
  • Support senior management in the effective identification and management of key financial and operational risks.
  • Develop and execute an annual risk based audit plan for corporate headquarters, multiple regions and service lines and perform duties necessary to achieve the global internal audit objectives. As part of the planning process, seek out and evaluate the insights of the Audit Committee and senior management on areas needing audit coverage.
  • Recruit, train, and mentor a high performing internal audit group that will be seen as a superb training group for future financial and operational leaders and an attractive career destination for both internal and external candidates.
  • Develop / maintain an annual program of professional education and appropriate training.
  • Develop / maintain a rotational staffing strategy to bring knowledgeable staff into internal audit and rotate strong, capable, control minded managers back into the business.
  • Monitor the control environment within the assigned service lines and regions  of the Company including independent testing of the conduct and documentation of the Sarbanes Oxley Self-Assessment.
  • Manage and conduct multiple internal audit projects concurrently that document the current control environment over business risk; assess the performance of the control environment through test work. Identify improvements in controls to strengthen the control environment and identify process changes to improve the businesses operating efficiency.
  • Review company assets and ensure safeguards are maintained to protect them from losses. Review the reliability and integrity of financial information and the means used to identify measure, classify and report such information. Review and record actions and plans taken by management to correct conditions reported by audit findings.
  • Manage and conduct advanced, complex, specialized and / or managerial auditing work in multiple disciplines. Perform critical project management duties in the planning, scheduling, coordinating, reviewing and reporting of the work of audit teams; and providing expertise in auditing standards and performance criteria, audit requirements, and information technology skills.
  • Review existing as well as new products, services and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory authority.
  • Assist in developing and monitoring annual departmental budgets and resource requirements. Develop annual plan for assigned regions for review and approval by Audit Committee.
  • Manage outsourced service providers, ensuring high quality work within budget.
  • Assess audit findings and issues and present to management in audit reports that are clear, concise with meaningful recommendations for improvement. 
  • Develop and maintain an appropriate process of follow-up on previously identified audit issues.
  • Sit on and contribute to appropriate committees such as Risk Management, Compliance, SOX, Financial Systems and others.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 15 years’ accounting experience including 4 years of public accounting or internal auditing experience; or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Professional Accountancy accreditation.
