Legal Director, U.S. Compliance Yahoo! - Sunnyvale -San Francisco



Job Description

As the Legal Director for U.S. Compliance team, you will be responsible for advising the company on legal obligations related to its response to requests for user data from federal and state government agencies and private third parties, as well as supporting the development and implementation of U.S. and global law enforcement policies, procedures, and training programs. You will also be responsible for advising business units regarding compliance with U.S. laws regarding access and disclosure of user data.

Job Responsibilities:
• Advising the U.S. Compliance team on criminal, civil and national security compliance requirements, and in appropriate responses to other requests for user data.
• Conducting internal training on U.S. law enforcement policies for team members.
• Developing and maintaining policies and procedures to be used by the U.S. Compliance team in responding to requests for user data.
• Advising business units regarding compliance with U.S. laws, including the Electronic Communications Privacy Act (ECPA) regarding access and disclosure of user data.
• Serving as a liaison between Yahoo! and U.S. law enforcement entities and conducting training for external law enforcement groups regarding Yahoo!’s policies and procedures for responding to requests for user data.

Desired Skills & Experience

Minimum Job Qualifications:
• Member in good standing of a U.S. bar association
• Approximately 5-7 years relevant experience
• Demonstrated knowledge and legal experience in areas of ECPA and Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) compliance
• Demonstrated ability to clearly communicate complex information and legal analyses to attorneys and laypersons
• Demonstrated ability to document, implement, and enforce procedures and policies
• Demonstrated negotiation and/or litigation skills
• Experience performing legal analyses involving complex technical and product issues, and developing creative solutions to achieve desirable outcomes
• Ability to maintain high ethical standards and professional integrity at all times

Preferable Job Qualifications:
• Strong communications skills, including written, verbal, and interpersonal skills
• Excels at interfacing and gaining the respect of stakeholders and external third parties
• Demonstrated team player, who has had success both leading and efficiently participating in cross-functional teams and/or matrix managed projects
• Ability to work in fast-paced environment, and make sound decisions under tight deadlines
