Job Description
Job Summary and Mission

This job contributes to Starbucks success by directing the research function to bring resources to market opportunities and reduces risk in business decision making. Models and acts in accordance with Starbucks guiding principles.

Summary of Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:

Leadership
* Setting goals for the work group, developing organizational capability, and modeling how we work together.
* Identifies and communicates key responsibilities and practices to ensure the immediate team of direct reports promotes a successful attitude, confidence in leadership, and teamwork to achieve business results.
* Leads the department in defining, developing, producing and managing global consumer insights for Starbucks retail and/or consumer packaged goods.
* Supports the implementation of Company programs, procedures, methods and practices to promote
* Starbucks key messages and achieve a competitive advantage.
Planning and Execution
* Developing strategic and operational plans for the work group, managing execution, and measuring results.
* Develops long-term strategies and plans globally for Starbucks retail and/or consumer packaged goods.
* Develops annual operating plan and budget, and quarterly forecast updates.
* Develops annual research plan in accordance with Starbucks retail and/or consumer packaged goods strategic plan and with input from key functions.
* Leads the planning and execution of global research projects that will support planning activities on the brand, category, retail, and consumer packaged goods marketing levels.
* Plans and manages business unit and department processes and practices to ensure that global programs are aligned with company business goals, and international and regional objectives.
* Prepares, communicates and educates global client groups and team on changes in policies and practices within the organization.
Business Requirements
* Providing functional expertise and executing functional responsibilities.
* Coordinates the rollout and execution of consumer insights research and programs across all global channels. Seeks opportunities to leverage product and program rollout across multiple global channels.
* Consults with internal clients regarding global research project management.
* Directs an internal staff of research managers and analysts towards serving the needs of key functional groups globally in an optimum fashion.
* Meets with clients to determine business issues, develop Requests for Proposal (RFP) and Question and Answer (QA) documents, and analyze global business needs and consumer trends.
* Leads or participates in cross-functional teams to influence integration of products or programs with overall Starbucks strategic direction, and to inform the development of new products or programs based on global consumer insights and research.
* Monitors all global research projects to ensure that quality, timing, and cost goals are met.
* Presents global consumer insights and research to senior management and leadership to create awareness of, discuss implications of, and recommend appropriate action steps.
* Tracks global customer trends and emerging insights relative to Starbucks retail and/or consumer packaged goods.
Partner Development & Team Building
* Providing partners with coaching, feedback, and developmental opportunities and building effective teams.
* Challenges and inspires partners to achieve business results.
* Conducts and ensures the completion of performance reviews.
* Ensures partners adhere to legal and operational compliance requirements.
* Oversees training and development of partners directly and indirectly managed and makes effective staffing decisions.
* Provides coaching, direction and leadership support to team members in order to achieve partner, business and customer results.

* Project management (8 years)
* Supervision (3 years)
* Market research
* Marketing or brand strategic planning
* Progressive experience managing varied marketing research projects, preferably in a food service or retail field

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
* Ability to apply knowledge of multidisciplinary business principles and practices to achieve successful outcomes in cross-functional projects and activities
* Ability to apply sound business principles and practices to project management and change management processes
