The Director of Engineering will be responsible for leading all software development activities for the Covisint business, including messaging, identity and access management (IAM), Internet of Things (IOT) platform, the Automotive Supplier network and all other product lines; and to drive the processes of aligning engineering efforts for this product group to the company’s strategic objectives.
He or she will implement processes that can be applied productively, predictably, with high quality and customer satisfaction across the organization. The Director of Engineering will play a key role in helping to formulate and execute strategies that promote repeatable software solutions to meet client requirements.
• Collaborate with product management to develop a holistic roadmap that maximizes customer value and incorporates a mix of functional and non-functional capabilities.
• Incorporate new technologies and deployment models to meet evolving customer needs e.g. cloud-based forensic examination and security
• Further the professional development of direct reports and their respective organizations, recruiting and growing the product organization
• Direct the work and professional development of off-shore based teams that are dotted line into the Director, coordinating with the off-shore based engineering leadership team
• Deliver quality product releases on time and within budget
• Work closely with counterparts in the operations, product management, support and sales organizations to ensure customer success, including direct interactions with customers.
• Lead product innovation in identity and access management and IOT
• Define and execute a roadmap for Identity and Access Management for the OpenText Business Network that supports value creation for B2B Management Services customers
• Define and execute a roadmap and go-to-market strategy (jointly with Product Management) to secure commercial IOT platform customers
• Partner with executive and senior management to develop strategic plans and ensure the strategic goals are clearly understood and effectively and efficiently addressed by the team.
• Function as a leader of the Southfield location and foster team-spirit and collaboration amongst the functional teams
• Oversee translation of product direction into plans to develop and deliver high-quality products on time and within budget
• Monitor delivery dates, quality levels and customer satisfaction levels to ensure objectives are met.
• Ensure effective recruiting, training and development programs, performance management and reward practices are applied to promote productivity, retention, motivation and morale
• Complete the functional and cultural integration of the Covisint business into OpenText
What it takes:
The successful candidate must have a minimum of 12 years in product development in agile software development environments targeting the enterprise.
The ability to explain complex technical ideas to a business audience is as critical as the understanding of and experience in leading talented research and engineering teams. Specific requirements and experience include:
• Demonstrated leadership experience setting the vision and building, leading and motivating development teams. Leads by example with creativity, strategic thinking, and innovation. Productively drives change when necessary.
• Has an inherent knowledge of development processes and best practices to manage multiple, large scale, co-dependent projects consistently on time and on budget. Experience with development of security software is a plus.
• Results oriented with a proven track record of success leading an engineering team in a dynamic, frequently changing entrepreneurial environment where management of complex and often conflicting product requirements is a critical driver of success.
• High intellectual horsepower with exceptional communication skills and executive presence. Comfortable presenting to, and interacting with, all levels internally and externally.
• Possesses a “can do attitude” and works with people from a variety of backgrounds together to accomplish goals.
• Ensure the systems are documented, areas of concern are documented and his/her overall findings are considered in the development of the long term technology roadmap.
• Create and manage the application architecture and technology roadmap - ensure new development is in line with this overall strategy and framework.
• Develop and continually improve the processes by which products are conceived, developed, tested, and released.
• Experience pivoting product solutions from on-premise to the cloud, including mobility exposure is highly desirable.
• Track performance, identify problems, communicate schedules and status, and meet product delivery schedules.
• Develop and/or improve tools, systems, processes, and procedures to increase department efficiency and effectiveness.
