We are looking for an enthusiastic and proactive Design Development and Construction Director for store network development at Unilever who wants to work in our dynamic, fast growing, and international organisation. In this position you are responsible for a successful and efficient global roll out & construction of stores. You will start up new stores, survey new locations, manage budget plans, external parties and suppliers and internal senior stakeholders. Furthermore, you make sure the planning of new shop openings are aligned with the planning of other Retail disciplines. In this role you lead the construction team in our Global Retail Organisation and you are a key player in the Global Retail Leadership team.
75% - Timely and on budget completion of all construction and development projects for the organization.
• Manage and oversee all facets of department’s construction program to include budget oversight, permit/entitlement and construction of new facilities and existing facilities renovation
• Ensure construction completion that is on time, in budget and to desired quality and compliant to the brand
• Manage the project from initial concept through various phases including: Ideation, Design Development, Construction Documentation (including tendering and construction follow-up support) and execution
• Coordinate with Design, Procurement, Real Estate, Operations, Supply Chain, IT and Marketing teams to ensure all relevant parties are updated on programs of works
• Visit the sites, check if work is to quality and within service level agreements
• Ensure any issues that arise are dealt with by relevant parties (Maintenance program)
• Actively manage the client’s budget and schedule
25% Lead the department by constantly reviewing and updating suppliers, strategy, standards and procedures
• You will understand the construction process and building codes, and will have experience working with external consultants and construction procedures. You will guide the output of the team, from design intent to construction documentation and execution
• Prepare strategic plans for mitigating risk and successful completion of the project
• Continually look to develop competition in contractors and consultants
• Manage and ensure budget/profitability targets are being met.
• Manage and mentor a small construction team
SKILLS YOU SHOULD HAVE
• Very strong organisation and project management skills
• Strong communication and time-management skills
• Ability to work in an advanced and complex multi-tasking environment
• Advanced technical skills with attention to construction detailing and knowledge of materials
• Managing/working with other consultants: Structural, MEP lighting, acoustic etc.
• Self-motivated, enthusiastic and comfortable working in a multidisciplinary team environment
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced entrepreneurial environment is required
• Ability to write fee proposals
• Articulate, organized, assertive, self-motivated, enthusiastic individual
• Ability to program work, setting timelines and productivity
• Fluent in English, verbal and written and other languages are a plus
EXPERIENCE YOU SHOULD HAVE
• Minimum 10 years experience in a retail design development and construction role
• Vast international experience is a must
• Architectural / Design background ideal
• Experience with tender processes and contract administration, from drafting RFP’s and contracts through to inspections
• Experience of managing client relationships and accounts
• Experience of working on international projects
• Experience in managing a team
