The Director of Marketing for the Control Division is responsible for leading and directing the trade marketing strategy, planning, programming and activation by channel across the Diageo Spirits business to deliver against market needs and financial objectives.
This role provides clear direction and sets stretch objectives through the Distributor/Broker network. This role has heavy influence with local distributor/broker teams and must maintain a two way collaborative dialogue that emphasizes teamwork and getting results.
Financial Responsibility
This position is responsible for the management of the all trade marketing promotional budgets, and has direct influence on the total Off/On-premise spend. This role will provide input to AOP development, specifically, volume goals, pricing development and tactical marketing budget development (local ATL, BTL)
Complexity of Role: This role must influence and provide direction to sales and trade marketing within Diageo and at the Distributor/broker. There is a strategic, advisory, planning and tactical execution component to the role. It is responsible for the following:
Developing and activating channel programming directly with Sales teams and Function Departments across all Control States. Activities will include portfolio programming and brand-specific across DEO spirits brands.
Must possess in-depth knowledge of on premise marketing strategies. Must possess knowledge of the 3-tier system, and how to apply tools to develop insightful understanding of customer needs. Must be able to translate and align channel insights/needs with shopper needs. Candidate must be able to work seamlessly across Clusters, Regions, Marketing, Innovation teams, Sales and internal Functions (Legal, IT, Supply/Ops, etc.). Must have the ability to influence and manage multiple business priorities.
Management Responsibility
This role reports to the SVP/GM of Control States. The role will supervise anywhere from 1 to 6 people at Diageo and collaborate/influence the distributor/broker trade development team. Must have a process in place in order to consistently review check points and updates to ensure the business remains on track to achieving goals. This role will also liaise with the Division VP Sales, Division Sales Directors, Finance Director and Commercial Director. This role requires management of the trade marketing function and delivering volume and profit growth objectives through local brand programming. This role also helps lead all aspects of the trade marketing function across Diageo and Distributor/Broker for the execution of our brands.
Develop and provide input to AOP development, specifically overseeing the cluster monthly planning calendar, working with brand teams to understand investment levels (GAME plans).
Develop local/chain marketing plans based on GAME plans/National Calendar.
Responsible for local media and the key opportunities in the market.
National Programs – break down national programs into monthly/quarterly priorities and provide distributor/broker with information needed for them to develop local programs.
Qualifications and Experience Required:
Commercial experience (2 - 5 years). Knowledge of financial metrics.
Trade Marketing and/or Brand Management Experience including exposure to line and national/key accounts roles. Must have strong knowledge of Distributor/Broker Operations.
Insight and understanding with both On and Off Trade. Engaged, influenced, and coordinated stakeholders who have different strategic initiatives.
Must have strong influencing, negotiation skills.
