Enterprise Architecture Director Workday Pleasanton

In partnership with key internal business partners, technology experts and external technology partners, you’ll be responsible for understanding and translating the overall Business needs into an IT technology strategy and goals for Workday, with an aligned, actionable and forward- looking IT Enterprise Architecture (EA) complete with supporting EA services.
Specifically, you’ll provide leadership for:

Enterprise Architecture IT Service.

Architecture Governance with a Architecture Review Board.

Matrixed network of Solution Architects across IT domains, who will help with the Architecture direction, roadmap and projects designs..

The development and execution of a long-range technology reference architecture and roadmap that anticipates future business needs and maximizes long-term information and technology investments in support of Workday’s strategy and supporting business capabilities.

Maximizing our goal to be Workday’s 1st and best customer by ensuring a “Why not Workday” approach to delivering business insights and populating Workday’s digital and enterprise IT reference architecture. In close partnership with WOW team.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Defines, communicates and effectively delivers trusted EA services inclusive of consulting on methods and tools, program / project delivery, standards and methods development.

Establish a matrixed network of Solution Architects across IT domains, who will help with the Architecture direction, roadmap and projects design that support it.

Chair the Architecture Governance Board that governs the design of initiatives. Counsel and guide to ensure that the designs are in line with the standards and technology roadmap, and helps us converge on the longer term vision and goals.

Establish a set of Architecture guiding principles, with a specific focus on Cloud, Workday on Workday, and mobility.

Work with the Business functional leaders to establish the Business Capability map for each, with maturity levels and gaps, and technology roadmaps to guide investment priorities.

Work closely with the Portfolio planning process providing active Architecture guidance on the estimations and priorities.

Contribute to the achievement of Workday’s IT aspiration through active engagement in the development and execution of the IT strategy as a member of the extended CIO leadership team.

Coach and mentor aspiring Solution and Enterprise Architects, while living Workday culture.

About You

Bachelor’s degree & 15 years of related experience AND 5 years of managerial experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs or directing the allocation of resources

Advanced Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Computer Engineering or MBA desired

An innate passion for and demonstrated experience with:

Accelerating business outcomes by advancing a strategically aligned, well-articulated and governed enterprise architecture

Coaching, mentoring and advancing both the business and technical skills of team members

Can-do, collaborative, client servicing mindset and ability to influence and operate effectively in a matrixed and global environment

Excellent strategic planning, critical thinking and influence skills

Excellent written, presentation and communication skills

Demonstrated track record of delivering.

Well versed with IT fundamentals including Agile, IT investment /portfolio management, Enterprise Architecture, Information Risk Management, ITIL, and Service Management

Strong program management and management reporting skills

Demonstrated ability to effectively develop and maintain strong relationships with technology suppliers
