Director Engineering Mobile Udemy San Francisco

Own evolution of Udemy’s native mobile applications to support millions of students and instructors on Udemy. Work closely with product and design teams to define the product roadmap and manage major initiatives and milestones.
Manage up to 3-4 teams as we grow the mobile team in our San Francisco office. Set goals for each team based on company initiatives and mobile product roadmap. Manage and mentor first line managers to effectively deliver on those goals through effective project management, technical leadership, personal coaching, and collaboration. Put metrics in place to measure quality and quantity of contributions.
Define mobile engineering best practices including coding standards, build, test and release processes and experimentation. Recruit, hire, and retain a credible team that meets delivery commitments while being responsive to customer support teams.
Continue to challenge status quo in terms of development processes and best engineering practices. Promote healthy debates around new tools and processes and champion changes that have positive impact.
Build a team culture that values quality, robustness, and scalability of our systems while fostering initiatives and innovation.
Grow and mentor leaders within the engineering organization.
Foster fun, friendly, and collaborative team environment for retention and recruiting.
Work with internal and external recruiters to attract high quality candidates. Oversee the hiring process to fill open positions while strengthening the team diversity and capacity.
Engage and participate in external developer meetups and events to promote Udemy engineering brand as a great place to work. Give tech talks or organize developer panels.
Qualifications

Built and managed a team of 10+ engineers and has 5+ years leading and managing engineering teams.
3+ years experience managing teams focused on native mobile application development.
2+ years experience managing and mentoring engineering leaders.
Experience building products while collaborating with product management and design, taking them to the market and iterating on them over time.
Experience with software engineering best practices including disciplined approach to software testing.
Proven track record of driving change and motivating engineers to get behind the change.
Ability to work with other engineering teams to collaborate on major initiatives on the platform.
Ability to work in a fast paced, hands-on, startup environment.
