We are seeking a leader who is an expert and deeply understands the changing world of commerce in all its dimensions – on-line, off-line, mobile, social, global, and local. S/he will be a creative thinker who has demonstrated the ability to “see” the future and drive organizations to capture value in new and emerging business models. The role will drive all aspects of creating and evangelizing eBay strategy. S/he will use a combination of skills to imagine the future of commerce as it relates to eBay and takes advantage of our rich assets.

S/he will work closely with key stakeholders to craft strategy recommendations that can be implemented across the organization. The successful candidate will interact with the CEO, regional business teams, product and technology leaders, and M&A/corporate development, along with the CFO, to ensure alignment with overall corporate strategy.
This is a critical executive position within eBay. The ideal candidate will operate at a high level of intellectual curiosity, exhibit superior analytical skills, demonstrate a strong work ethic, and bring a proven ability to work with and lead teams. S/he will have the maturity, confidence, intellectual strengths, and real world experience to lead and inspire a team of smart and driven professionals. This candidate must have a passion for understanding and serving the unique community of eBay users. As with any position at this level within eBay, this executive has to be comfortable driving multiple initiatives at a rapid pace and making recommendations with incomplete data.
Responsibilities:
Market and Competitive Analysis: Develop insightful market intelligence about key industry trends (technology, competitors, consumers, regulatory, etc.) and successfully communicate the strategic implications to the organization.
Business Analytics: Drive business judgment, market understanding, problem solving, and fact-based analysis to identify, prioritize, structure, and solve complex business problems.
Strategy Development: Develop the strategies for eBay to differentiate itself in the market. This will include creating the strategies, developing the key initiatives to support the strategies and working closely with key eBay constituencies to gain buy-in.
Strategy Mobilization: Work with the eBay line organization as needed to support mobilization and implementation of the business strategies.
Team Leadership: Lead and mentor a talented and driven strategy team in the development and execution of strategic initiatives.
Communication: Support the communication effort to keep eBay’s CEO, Devin Wenig and the executive team informed as to the strategic direction and initiatives within the group. Support the broader organizational communication of the strategy as needed.
Organizational Alignment: Partner with the regional business units, product and technology leaders, finance and M&A/corporate development, to ensure alignment with overall corporate strategy.
Job Requirements:
Proven thought leader with expertise in technology, ideally in e-commerce, retail and/or consumer facing products is highly desirable.
Skilled in strategy development, including project scoping, hypotheses development, financial and business modeling, strategic options identification, consensus building, and implementation.
Creativity and “out of the box” thinking that drives innovation. The ability to “see around corners” and “connect the dots” that enable business to proactively drive business, not just respond to it.
Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor a talented and driven strategy team in the development and execution of strategic initiatives.
Strong executive presence and ability to communicate strategy clearly and simply. Ease with executive-level interactions - ability to distill complex business issues and strategies to highlight insights and actionable recommendations in a concise and persuasive manner. Superior written and verbal communicate skills.
Ability to lead cross-functional collaboration in a highly matrixed and complex environment.
Qualifications:
12+ years of work experience preferred. Experience working for a top tier strategy consulting firm is a requirement.
BS/BA degree, MBA or Engineering degree preferred with significant academic achievements, including academic awards and other recognitions.
Proven leadership experience in leading and mentoring a high performing team.
