As a Senior Director (Head of) of the Precision Immunology Cluster in the Immunology and Inflammation & Inflammation Research and Early Development Therapeutic Area you will be a scientific innovator, drive scientific excellence and rigor, and develop and advance cutting-edge therapeutics. The Senior Director (Head of) will manage research teams supported by multidisciplinary platforms and scientists based in the Boston area and around the globe.
The Senior Director (Head of) and team will identify and validate new drug targets and stratified patient populations using a variety of systems immunology tools, including bioinformatics data analysis and network biology approaches of human molecular and immune profiling data. The Senior Director (Head of) will drive the generation and testing of new molecular and disease mechanistic hypotheses leading to new biological insights and discovery of drug targets.

The Senior Director (Head of) will work closely with research platform and development colleagues to ensure the progression of projects from concept to clinical testing, focusing on accessing/analysing publically available and in house molecular data sets and developing and validating a strong translational research pipeline. The Senior Director (Head of) will maintain a leadership position in the Systems immunology research communities, connecting Sanofi scientists with collaborators around the globe. The Senior Director (Head of) will work closely with the Head of the Immunology and Inflammation Research and Early Development Therapeutic Area to develop and integrate a research strategy within the broader Immunology and Inflammation Strategy, contribute to portfolio review and prioritization, and will be part of the Immunology and Inflammation Leadership Team, together with other Senior Directors/Directors and key business partners.

Key Accountabilities:

Lead a Cluster of scientists, bioinformaticians responsible for identifying novel targets and pathways to stratify and treat chronic inflammatory and autoimmune diseases; connecting cutting-edge science with unmet medical need.
Work in partnership with colleagues in bioinformatics and immunogenomics in the Translational Sciences research platform and Oncology Research Therapeutic Area
Advance the Immunology and Inflammation Research and Early Development Therapeutic Area strategy by identifying new targets and advancing projects in the current pipeline. Lead scientists experienced in a range of disciplines, from molecular and cell biology, immunology, genetics, and pharmacology, to develop deep mechanistic understanding of disease pathogenesis and confidence in target rationale,
Lead internally and externally in the area of systems immunology, publishing cutting edge science and developing and maintaining key collaborations around the globe.
Manage collaborative relationships with project leads, key internal and external stakeholders, and with the Sanofi research platform leadership to resource and advance portfolio projects.
Recruit, retain and develop world-class scientific talent.

Qualifications
Essential Qualifications:

PhD with 12 + years of experience developing and leading research programs. 12 + years of experience in drug discovery and development preferred;
Deep expertise, programming skills, and outstanding record of research and recent publications in systems immunology.
Expertise in extending discovery research through translational human biology to clinical development, using bioinformatics approaches
First-hand multi-parametric data mining experience for target identification and biomarker discovery. For example, multivariate analysis; dimensionality reduction methods; parametric and non-parametric statistical methods; Bayesian statistics; pattern recognition or classification methods.
First-hand experience at integrating publicly or commercially available genetic, genomic, and immune datasets with novel experimental data to identify testable hypotheses
Statistical programming skills like SAS/S-plus, R/bioconductor and pipeline pilot or equivalents
A background in Translational Research, Pathway Analysis, Quantitative Methods for Systems Biology, Network Analysis, or Simulation are a plus.
Experience leading multi-disciplinary, matrixed teams.

Understanding of complex research landscapes globally, ability to identify cutting-edge research and new directions, and connect internal and external colleagues productively.
Outstanding management, communication and interpersonal skills.
