This position is responsible for developing products and services that enhance PlayStation users’ gaming experiences and creating new revenue opportunities. Your main focus will be to oversee the entire product lifecycle of our regional (2nd party) peripheral products from concept to post-launch management. The ideal candidate has a passion for gaming and consumer electronics, is a strong advocate for the customer, and a collaborative team player with strong leadership skills to work with a cross-functional team in bringing the best products to our PlayStation customers.
Responsibilities:
Responsible for developing product strategy and 3-year roadmap plans for regional (2nd party) peripherals.
Understand the platform strategy and develop product lines that compliment or enhance platform and/or company goals.
Collaborate with the Marketing and Peripherals Licensing departments to strategically develop a product portfolio across 1st, 2nd and 3rd party products.
Develop a product and team culture that understands the importance of continuous and rapid testing and learning. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, such as Engineering and Project Management teams, to make this a routine in our product development process.
Consistently monitor and regularly report on competitors, innovation and technology trends, and noteworthy product introductions.
Develop new products/services and manage existing product lines
Establish metrics to measure effectiveness of products and drive improvements.
Develop new products as well as manage existing product lines, including increasing profitability and managing phasing out products.
Drive development from start to completion. Work closely with engineering, project management, marketing and operations.
Manage internal stakeholders and evangelize product concepts and plans to receive buy-in. Inspire and motivate teams to support our products/projects by strengthening working relationships across teams.
Partner with the PlayStation Corporate Design Center to:
Establish design strategy and baselines for comfort, manufacturability, and usability across all regional products.
Establish metrics and practices that generate and validate product ideas and concepts with clearly measured value propositions.
Act as liaison between the PlayStation Corporate Design Center and our manufacturing vendors and internal stakeholders.
Manage OEM/ODM vendor partnerships
Manage partnerships with OEM/ODM vendors, including negotiating business terms to maximize profitability, executing agreements, and ensuring vendor practices and manufacturing capabilities meet product quality and safety standards.
Collaborate with engineering and procurement teams to investigate and test potential new vendors.
Work with Partner Business Management and Finance teams to review and manage P&L of released products and analyzing size and projections for new product/service opportunities.
Work with Marketing Consumer Insights and User Research teams to develop consumer and market insights, and build learnings into future products.
Manage the Product Management and Design teams.
Perform assessments and evaluations for direct reports
Interview, hire and train direct reports (as and when required)
Coach, mentor, motivate and supervise direct & first level managers, project team members and contractors, and influence them to take positive action and accountability for their assigned work.
Determine and assess need for additional staff and/or consultants and make the appropriate recruitments if necessary and when approved by HR/Senior Management
Identify and resolve issues and conflicts which may arise amongst team-members, both direct reports and external reports
Qualifications:
Deep understanding of consumer behavior, competitive landscape, identifying market opportunities, and championing strategies for growth.
Sincere interest in and champion for the consumer
Able to identify and clearly communicate key risks and make timely, sound strategic judgments in uncertain situations
Creativity and knowledge in all areas of product development including the ability to conceptualize, develop, and implement innovative product development programs.
Knowledge of the functions and process of product development, marketing, package design, operations, manufacturing sales and their effect on product market agility and speed to market
Strong collaborator and inclusive partner with internal business and technical partners as well as with external partners.
Expert on modern forms and disciplines of product planning, customer discovery, product discovery, and the product development process
Proven ability in developing team members and strong track record of identifying and recruiting potential talent, working actively and continuously to address weaknesses and exploit strengths.
Desired qualifications:
Minimum 10 years of product development or product management experience in video gaming products, consumer electronics and/or consumer software products.
Demonstrated experience in managing entire product lifecycles of video gaming hardware products or consumer electronic products.
3-5 years of experience in managing product development or product management teams.
BA/BS in a related field.
Preferred Experience/Education:
MBA or Masters in a related field is a plus.
Direct experience in product development or product management of video gaming hardware products or consumer electronics hardware products is a plus.
