The Director of Content Management & Development is an integral member of the Universal Domestic Theatrical Distribution team. The Director will support the SVP in all departmental matters including, but not limited to technology partnerships, repertory sales, vendor management, distribution planning, and print cost reconciliation & payment. The qualified candidate will have strong sales planning and marketing experience and be able to cultivate new and unique business partnerships with both internal and external parties. The candidate will have a deep knowledge of film history, passion for the business, experience with new technologies and online marketplaces, and the ability to manage end-to-end sales tools and processes. This position will report directly to and support the SVP, but have oversight of all sales and direct marketing efforts related to the Universal and Focus Features film library. The role also requires strong interest in business development and social media platforms.
Essential Responsibilities:
Support SVP in all department day-to-day business including but not limited to development of new in-theater and distribution technology partnerships, management of 3rd party content distribution vendors, budgeting and planning for internal finance purposes, and reconciliation/analysis of theatrical print costs.
Assess new emerging technology partnerships and business opportunities in the theatrical space, including evaluation and impact review of tools and technologies on current first-run and library content business.
Working alongside the SVP, identify alternative content and non-feature theatrical partnership and distribution opportunities, cultivating the required third-party relationships and building ROI models to vet and develop such new programs.
Develop and meet annual sales plan and growth targets for Universal and Focus Features repertory content including proactive expansion of programs for special film and anniversary titles (e.g. Back to the Future Day).
Oversee day-to-day management of library sales functions, including online order management within the new Universal Library Sales Portal, actively soliciting and fielding one-off content requests from exhibitors, negotiating rental terms, confirming of all orders, and delivery fulfillment via the in-house booking system.
Liaise with Partnership & Licensing, Home Entertainment, and Theatrical Marketing teams to explore, develop and jointly implement unique marketing programs for library films and alternative content.
Act as business lead in managing the Universal Library Sales Portal, including managing all user access requests and information, film meta-data, marketing assets and content availability schedules, and develop resources and relationships to procure and update such information in a timely manner.
Cultivate a strong relationship with in-house film shipping and archive departments to ensure management of film assets are consistent with department requirements.
Develop Library sales presentations, quarterly sales reports, and special materials as required to support SVP.
Qualifications/Requirements Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree, Business or related field
MBA or related Master’s degree a plus
Minimum 6 years’ experience in corporate sales and marketing or similar business development roles.
Understanding and experience in the theatrical film technologies and sales & distribution processes.
Advanced technical proficiency including usage of online marketplaces, Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
Strong analytics and problem-solving skills, with demonstrated initiative.
Outstanding interpersonal skills, team ethics, and the ability to interact with all levels of management.
Ability to multi-task and prioritize work assignments and work well under pressure.
Must be accurate, highly organized with great attention to detail.
Knowledge of Universal and Focus Features film libraries a plus.
Extended on-call work hours as required including early mornings, weekends, evenings and holidays.
