Goodreads is seeking a Director to lead Analytics and Data Engineering. This leader will manage a team of 3 analysts and 3 data engineers to own our growing data warehouse and conduct deep dives to better understand our customers, how they engage with our products, and how we can optimize those experiences and our business.

As Goodreads continues to revolutionize the reading experience on Kindle, grows on mobile platforms, and innovates on the world’s premier book marketing platform, deeply understanding our customers will be key to driving our innovations.

This role will report to the VP, Consumer and Author Revenue, and will be a key partner and strategic advisor to all senior business and product leaders across Goodreads. They will guide decisions that impact the company’s future by leading a team to conduct carefully thought-out, well-executed, deep analyses and actionable insights. They will know how to make the right trade-offs between technically correct and “good-enough” to ensure we make the right decisions fast enough. They will also build the platforms and culture to drive self-serve analysis and data-driven decision-making throughout the company. The successful candidate will have a strong track record of hiring and managing high performers. The team will be split between San Francisco and Chennai, India, so experience managing a remote team is a plus.

This role is based in San Francisco and will require occasional travel to India (~2-3x per year).

Responsibilities
Set strategic vision, establish goals, build capacity plans, and maintain a road map for the team and for individuals on the team.
Identify the most important product and business questions and define initiatives to answer those questions.
Ensure that our data warehouse has all the data we need to measure our business and explore our customers’ behavior and that it scales with our growth.
Basic Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, related technical field, or equivalent work experience.
8+ years of experience building and maintaining Business Intelligence / data warehouse systems and managing data analysis / data science projects.
3+ years directly managing a team covering Business Intelligence, data warehouse, and/or Data Science.
Strong ability to communicate (written and verbal) complex analyses and conclusions in clear, simple ways.
Detailed knowledge of data warehouse technical architectures, infrastructure components, ETL and reporting/analytic tools.
Experience using Cloud Storage and Computing technologies such as AWS RedShift, RDS etc.
Experience managing very large data sets.
Preferred Qualifications

MBA preferred.
Experience managing remote teams in other countries.
Experience analyzing customers for a large-scale consumer online business, especially a social network based business.
