Under Armour is hiring a Materials Development Manager, Apparel to drive Material Innovation within the Woven materials category. This is a technical development position, that not only requires technical expertise, but the ability to work with and interpret a diverse supply-chain and internal customer network to develop the best and most fitting textiles for a growing “Tech Company.”

Collaborate with Design and Merchandising teams to manage and determine textile needs for upcoming seasons for woven apparel.
Work with Materials Sourcing to determine cost implications of new textile development globally.
Partner with global ingredient suppliers to aid in textile development.
Communicate/visit/collaborate with our vast network of global partner mills, ingredient suppliers, and trade-shows to develop new concepts and mine their libraries for on-trend (or future trend) textiles.
Create strong partnerships and collaborate with the internal Materials Team
Partner with our International Materials Team (based in Hong Kong and Panama) for both technical development and completion of textile specifications for all materials Under Armour engineers from across the globe.
Develop textiles to an end-specification to ensure quality assurance and commercial viability of a textile – including color implications.
Collaborate with internal Innovation partners to support long-lead, high profile projects (not just limited to textiles).
Proven ability to work on in-season textile development while focusing on long-lead highly engineered development for textile innovation in the near-term and long-term.

Extensive knowledge and proven experience working in technical textile development and the following principles:
Dyeing and Finishing
Value-added chemistries (performance enhancement)
All textile constructions (knitting, weaving, etc.)
All yarn-types and substrates (poly, nylon, cotton, elastane, etc.)
Polymer and Color Chemistry
Mechanical modification of a textile for performance
End-use, product specific materials engineering
Team building
Strong communication skills; being able to communicate with both global internal/external customers and suppliers
Ability to work independently without rigidity and constant oversight.
Education and/or Experience
Bachelor’s degree in textiles
Minimum 7 years’ experience in the principles listed above
