Lead Staff Hardware Engineer Google Chicago

With your technical expertise, you lead projects in multiple areas of expertise (i.e., engineering domains or systems) within a data center facility, including construction and equipment installation/troubleshooting/debugging with vendors.
Reporting to the Director of Phone Hardware Product Engineering, the Lead Staff Hardware Engineer will lead an electrical engineering team responsible for the design and development of a phone platform consisting of multiple form factors.

You will work with key partners that include Engineering Project Management, Software Engineering and Product Design Engineering. You will have the responsibility of managing the tactical and strategic work breakdown structure of the electrical engineering team members. You will also have responsibility for the development of talent within the team in order to ensure that a robust pipeline of skilled technical staff engineers is available to meet the growing technical challenges and R&D needs for the phone product portfolio.

Responsibilities
Develop award-winning and market-leading mobile devices showcasing the best of Google hardware and software.
Grow, develop, and retain a high performing hardware team.
Optimize the product development process, building metrics for performance and quality by creating test plans/specifications and building a team that obsesses over details and quality.
Qualifications
Minimum qualifications:
15 years of experience in creating system requirements, schematics, board design and development, as well as board and system bring-up and debugging.
Experience with PCB-level design engineering of system boards, including CPU/chipset, memory, high-speed communication interfaces, low power architectures, li-ion battery charging architectures, DC/DC switching converters, and sensor fusion.
Experience working with OEM, ODM, JDM, and CM partners (or some subset of these), and with industry standard CAD tools such as OrCAD, Concept, Allegro, Altium
Experience with standard RF/Wi-Fi interfaces (802.11, CDMA, UMTS, LTE, LTE-A,GPS, Bluetooth, NFC) at chipset, baseband, and antenna integration levels. Experience with CPU internal architecture, SW development from firmware through system-level software.

Preferred qualifications:
MS degree in in Electrical Engineering, Sensors, Digital/analog design, Power Engineering or related technical field
Experience as a proactive leader who creates processes and implements tools to design, simulate, and validate system performance and integrity prior to building and prototyping.
Known as an action-oriented person with an obsession for results that consistently surpass plans. Able to constantly search for new opportunities to improve performance and product development process efficiencies.
Possess a reputation as a decisive and strong hardware leader with rapid decision making skills based on data and experience. Ability to set dramatic, compelling and aggressive schedules for improvement and conveys a sense of urgency to drive issues to closure.
Ability to create and institutionalize signal integrity analyses, power delivery network analyses, thermal analysis, and others to verify design before approvals to build.
