The Director of Legal Affairs, Universal Parks & Resorts (UPR) is responsible for managing legal aspects of domestic and international real estate and commercial transactions, including advising on land use and real estate development matters, drafting and negotiating complex real estate and commercial agreements, and providing advice and guidance for UPR operations. The Director of Legal Affairs is also responsible for managing compliance requirements, contractual obligations and dispute resolution.

Advise regarding land use, planning, and real estate development matters and negotiate, draft, and interpret sophisticated corporate and real estate documents, including matters related to project development, joint venture formation, financing, CC&Rs, and leases
Provide oversight, management and tracking of corporate compliance, including contractual commitments.
Provide general legal support for domestic and international projects, including researching applicable laws and regulations, and advising on regulatory and contractual compliance obligations.
Assist with drafting and implementing policies and procedures and development of training surrounding compliance obligations and contractual requirements.
Manage special projects.
SCOPE: Under general direction of the Legal Affairs department, the Director of Legal Affairs is responsible for drafting and negotiating complex commercial and real estate agreements, and providing advice and guidance for Universal Parks and Resorts compliance and operations.
Qualifications/Requirements QUALIFICATIONS:
Proven capability to lead and drive change in a corporate environment.
Strong written, verbal communication and interpersonal skills
Strong prioritization and time management skills
Must be a self-starter capable of working with various elements within a diverse organization to provide the highest level of service
The ability to work independently with minimal supervision is required.
Integrity, honesty and trust and the ability to maintain strict confidentiality are also imperative to this role
EDUCATION: Juris Doctor or LLM required from an accredited law school.
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Member of State Bar (Florida or California preferred).
EXPERIENCE:
At least ten years’ post-law school experience, as an attorney, preferably with top-tier law firm or corporate legal department.
At least five years’ experience interpreting, negotiating and drafting complex real estate and commercial agreements including land use experience (e.g., zoning, master development planning)
Experience negotiating and closing real estate or corporate transactions and related documents such as loans and joint venture agreements;
Experience in real estate development and related areas strongly preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Proven ability and commitment to work both independently and collaboratively with numerous people at all levels throughout the company.
Demonstrated ability, in a positive, commercial and practical manner, to identify, prioritize and resolve issues quickly and effectively.
Must be highly proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, as well as Internet and web-based training tools.
Some domestic and international travel may be required.
