This Director, Associate Counsel will be responsible for executing on a broad range of client support areas, with primary focus on the Commercial Card business offered through the Commercial Bank’s Treasury Management division.

Representative responsibilities include:

Preparation, modification, review, and interpretation of various Commercial Card documentation, including client-facing agreements/disclosures, communications and internal implementation docs
Providing day-to-day guidance on legal matters associated with Commercial Card product
Providing legal guidance on new product/feature development
Researching relevant federal and state laws to ensure product compliance
Working with internal legal contracting team on complex consortium/referral arrangements
Reviewing marketing materials in support of relevant legal enterprise marketing team
Supporting bankers in the Commercial Bank, including Treasury Management, Commercial Real Estate, Middle Market Banking and Government Banking
Independently managing a wide range of complex banking matters, with particular focus on Commercial Card, using your legal knowledge, understanding of the business, and resources within the Capital One Legal Department. Consulting with internal subject matter expert colleagues as appropriate to provide timely and well-informed advice.
Developing deep insight into banking businesses and providing legal counsel and advice on complex issues to enable business clients to achieve strategic goals.
Reviewing existing processes and proactively working to improve them to continue Capital One’s evolution as a top tier bank.
Managing and coordinating outside counsel, when necessary.
The ability to react quickly to bank client needs, including advising on account-level matters to head off/ defuse adverse customer interactions and claims.
Developing working relationships with many internal bank clients across numerous business lines.
The ability to manage and prioritize support for multiple businesses, including backing up other team members as needed.
Basic Qualifications:

Juris Doctorate (J.D.)
At least 8 years of commercial transactions, commercial banking or credit card payments experience as an attorney in a law firm and/or in-house bank legal department OR At least 8 years of combined experience in commercial transactions, commercial banking and credit card payments experience as an attorney in a law firm and/or in-house bank legal department
Preferred Qualifications:

8+ years of experience in a major law firm and/or in-house legal department, with a focus on large bank commercial banking products or financial service products, working closely with business partners on real-world matters.
Experience drafting, reviewing and negotiating a wide variety of agreements related to the payments and credit card business.
Experience across a broad range of commercial banking products, including treasury management and ancillary products.
Ability to work effectively both in teams and independently, manage multiple clients, make effective decisions and collaborate with clients.
Outstanding judgment.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
Excellent analytical, oral and written communication skills.
Ability to work cooperatively with internal constituents to create efficient processes and to get issues resolved across organizational boundaries.
