Reporting to the Vice President and Chief Information Officer, the Senior Director of IT Strategy & Planning is a key member of the Information Technology Leadership Team. The successful candidate will be primarily responsible for leading three main aspects of the IT function: Establishing and maintaining an IT operating model that serves as the basis for how work is done and measured throughout IT; lead a team that will make sure consistent project management practices are applied as well as ensuring the right governance model is in place; and establish the IT architecture practice which will encompass our approach towards Enterprise, Solutions and Domain architecture throughout the business.

Create and drive an IT Operating Model with serves as the key methodology for how work is done- everything from business engagement, architecture, business commit, design review and post project assessment.
Establish and lead the Project Management Office for IT, ensuring the proper focus on process, delivery and quality across IT projects
Ensure consistent project management delivery across all areas engagement.
Create and manage a governance model for how work is maintained and reported through metrics- monthly operational reviews, All Hands, employee satisfaction survey results, etc.
Establish an IT Metrics and Reporting strategy.
Lead, manage and develop a global organization of IT project managers and architects
Run monthly operations reviews which includes driving the appropriate level of content in conjunction with the IT leadership team. Duties include facilitating the meeting, tracking and following up on action items.
Establish and maintain an Architecture practice that aligns to how we perform Enterprise Architecture, Solutions Architecture and Domain Architecture.
Maintain a consistent approach towards incident management- how P1, P2 and P3 events are handled, triaged and actioned.
Ensure change management follows the right amount of rigor and measurement ensuring a balance of quality control with getting work done.
Establishes the vendor management function which includes alignment with key partners.
Collaborate within IT to pull together content for presentations and prepare meeting material for employee events, supplier and customer meetings and internal Ciena executive reviews.
Work collaboratively with Human Resources, Finance, supply chain cabinet leaders, corporate functions and Executive Admin to drive the IT operating cadence.
Provide input on key business issues and decisions based on business requirements and analysis and be proactive in issue management and closure.
Responsible for the IT budget (??) and identifying opportunities for efficiency gains
Work closely with the CIO and direct reports to ensure alignment of functions.
