NBC News Digital is seeking a dynamic and energetic Director of Social Media to manage social strategy and partnerships that drive consumer engagement. This newly created position will help to create ground breaking social content that drives brand awareness and engagement – utilizing social media tools, emerging technologies and optimizing partnerships both inside and outside of NBC Universal.

Develop a winning social media strategy that activates consumers and encourages repeated site visits
Discover and break news through social media platforms and tools
Oversight of daily posting and engagement across social channels
Create highly sharable multi-media social experiences to grow audience engagement
Contribute creative ideas to special series and verticals
Collaborate with journalist across both digital and broadcast to integrate social and editorial content
Participate in special projects, pitch fresh ideas, and assist senior editors as needed
Review and analyze 3rd party social media daily traffic and growth to contribute to regular reporting and development of action items on user engagement and community
Grow brand presence and consumer engagement
Develop and grow partnerships with other media companies, creative agencies, social media thought leaders and celebrity talent to help grow a relevant social footprint at scale
Work closely with Ad Sales on monetization opportunities in emerging technologies
Help to identify and cultivate social media ambassadors throughout the organization
Qualifications/Requirements REQUIRED Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree
10+ years working in a news operation or agency focusing in news and storytelling, 6+ years in social media
Proven track record transforming creative ideas into successful social media implementations across multiple brands
Ability to connect brands with trending themes and influencers
A sense of what’s popular and buzz worthy while not being afraid to take risks to identify/introduce new social outlets
Passion for all things digital
Strong writing skills – the ability to capture the voice of a brand and execute across multiple platforms
Relevant experience working in online media and/or publishing, with the ability to react quickly to industry trends and adapt strategy accordingly
Must be willing to work in NYC and travel as needed
A deep understanding of social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat
Proven news judgment, high ethical standards and wonderful interpersonal skills
Must be willing and able to work flexible hours depending when demanded by news coverage and other editorial responsibilities
Desired Characteristics DESIRED Qualifications
Experience with graphic design, Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator
Experience in video production and use of Final Cut Pro
