The Director for Restaurant Sustainability and Non-Food Sourcing reports directly to the Global VP Sustainability, and leads the restaurant sustainability strategy and implementation for our restaurants worldwide. The Restaurant Sustainability Director acts as the liaison between key functions such as Operations and Development and Global Sustainability, and supports country Sustainability leads to implement strategies at the local level. The role entails:
Watch: Career Advice Working with a cross-functional team to manage forward-looking restaurant sustainability goals, integrate sustainability further into the system and support strategy execution
Internal and external stakeholder engagement related to restaurant sustainability, including development of engagement / recognition programs for employees, franchisees, customers, and communities; and relationship management with external NGOs and stakeholder advisors.
Management of performance metrics and reporting to enable more relevant internal and external progress updates to drive brand trust
Key relationships include: Global Sustainability team, Global Supply Chain team, Restaurant Solutions Group, Operations and Development teams, Marketing team, Training team, Communications & Public Affairs team, Finance team.

In addition to following McDonald’s policies and procedures, principle accountabilities include, but are not limited to:
Strategic Planning – Restaurant Sustainability
Act as the Restaurants and Packaging/Waste Liaison to Brand Trust/Sustainability Framework sponsors and Strategy Alignment team and help shape overall brand trust strategy for the company.
Lead the strategy and forward-looking goals to drive positive environmental impact in key focus areas (consumer- and stakeholder-relevant), aligned as relevant with Sustainable Sourcing and Community priorities and adaptive to emerging environmental risks and opportunities for the brand.
Restaurant Sustainability Strategy Implementation
Lead the global Restaurant Sustainability team, co-manage Country sustainability leads together with our Sustainable Sourcing Lead, with 9+ reports in countries across Europe and Australia.
Partner and align with other functions to integrate sustainability strategy into restaurant design and experience – e.g. RSG, Supply Chain, Development, Marketing, Training, EOTF, Community Affairs, etc.
Set and live a culture for innovation and idea sharing to identify best practices that can be shared and scaled across the system.
Performance Tracking & Communications
Track performance and manage relevant environmental data analyses and disclosures for restaurants.
Contribute to brand engagement/activation on RS topics internally and externally (e.g. reports, conference networking, social, etc.)
Partner with Communications, Marketing & Digital to share progress and “tell our story” to internal and external stakeholders – including local CSR Reporting, franchisee and employee engagement, marketing activation, and input into global reporting.
Minimum Requirements
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree
5+ years of experience in a Sustainability related field and/or experience in the McDonald’s System in a restaurant-related function
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s in Business, Environmental Management or Sustainability a plus
Extensive network of stakeholder contacts in the sustainability / NGO industry preferred
Strong communications and presentation skills for audiences including leadership, external stakeholders, functional partners, franchisees, suppliers and general public
Strong strategy and policy development and project management skills
Talent development mindset and demonstration of successful people management skills
A high level of communication and interpersonal skills and flexible mindset – desire to work in a dynamic global team across time zones and with very different functional audiences
Global mindset – aware and attentive to external macro issues that affect planet/communities and how they are relevant to our business and customers
Collaborative – almost 100% of work is done through partnering with and influencing others
Fluent English speaker, additional languages beneficial
