We are currently looking for a Director to lead our cutting edge NVMe SSD Firmware Development Team in San Jose, CA.
The ideal Firmware Development Director will need the following:
The ability to manage and grow a team of firmware developers working on NVMe based designs for the enterprise and server market space.
To be responsible for recruitment, retention, project management and delivery through to customers

The ability to communicate and negotiate with internal and external customers, FAE, and overseas development centers on required features and development schedule for these features.
The ability to work with and participate in conference calls with counterparts in Korea and in India.


Responsibilities:

Personnel recruiting and management
Project management of firmware development.
Support for customer qualification and be the key customer and FAE interface
Define, deploy, and improve development processes to ensure maturity is addressed upfront in the development cycle.
Ensure high level of customer satisfaction by completing customer feature requests on time. Ensuring prompt issue resolution and FA analysis.
Actively manage customer perception.
Work directly with counterparts in overseas development centers and share development plans, reports and provide visibility on the work at hand. Concurrently obtain roadmaps, project schedules and project information
Ensure quick customer qualification by delivering high quality firmware.
Engage and manage activities including architecture, standards, customer requirements, and firmware design/qualification for enterprise SSD with a team of high caliber firmware developers.


Skill & Abilities:

Have significant direct experience with software, drivers, and firmware development and management in a server/storage and HDD/SSD technology environment with focus on interfaces like NVMe, PCIe, SAS/SATA, SCSI, or Fibre Channel.
Demonstrated proficiency in C/C++ for embedded systems, including relevant hands on experience in embedded software or firmware
Understanding of ARM or equivalent embedded multi-core microprocessor architectures is preferred.
Experience in enterprise server/storage market and dealing with enterprise OEM and hyperscale customers
Must have proven track record of developing and qualifying firmware for storage products on time
Experience of working in a fast paced environment doing quick and ongoing firmware customization to satisfy customer requests. Ability to adapt to change and/or be flexible as business situation/priorities changes.
Be able to communicate complex firmware designs and solutions in clear, concise and easily readable format by both technical and non-technical personnel.
Agile development experience is a strong plus
Strong planning, organizing, prioritizing and time management skills
Customer focused and works to maintain strong customer relationships
Ability to work collaboratively with others (e.g. team members, other departments, and other development sites)
Strong interpersonal skills with varying audiences at individual and group level.
Strong leadership capabilities, including empowering others, managing performance and creating a motivating environment

Background /Experience:

At least 15+ years of relevant firmware development experience
5 years in leadership role within firmware development managing team size of at least 25 to 30 high power embedded software engineers and architects,
BS required, MS in EE, CE, CS, or related fields preferred
MBA in general management is a plus.
