This job contributes to Starbucks success by providing legal advice and counsel to Starbucks Global Marketing Organization, Consumer Insights, Customer Loyalty and Public Affairs business units. We are seeking applicants who enjoy working in a collaborative, team environment with the goal of maximizing business opportunities while appropriately managing brand risk. This attorney will deliver timely, creative and practical legal advice, participate in creative review of marketing materials, and provide commercial contract support (including drafting and negotiating professional services, promotion, sponsorship, cause marketing, licensing, branded integration, etc. agreements).

Leadership - Setting goals for direct reports, developing organizational capability, and modeling how we work together:
Identifies and communicates key responsibilities and practices to ensure the immediate team of direct reports promotes a successful attitude, confidence in leadership, and teamwork to achieve business results.
Supports the implementation of Company programs, procedures, methods and practices to promote Starbucks key messages and achieve a competitive advantage.
Planning & Execution - Developing strategic and operational plans for direct reports, managing execution, and measuring results:
Continuously improves practice group operations within the legal department to meet company objectives for operational excellence. Identifies, plans and executes areas for improvement to ensure consistent legendary service to customers.
Contributes to departments strategic and business planning, including operating plan and budget.
Coordinates work with outside counsel and internal clients and manages associated costs.
Leads or participates on department committees and project teams to deliver initiatives to support Starbucks business objectives.
Plans and manages business unit and department processes and practices to ensure that programs are aligned with company business goals and objectives.
Prepares, communicates and educates client groups and team on relevant legal issues and changes in policies and practices within the organization.
Business Requirements - Providing functional expertise as a marketing/advertising attorney and executing functional responsibilities:
Effectively manages outside counsel work product and costs.
Ensures that Starbucks complies with regulatory requirements and filings.
Participates on cross-functional teams with business unit/ department clients to provide strategic marketing/advertising legal advice.
Provides clients with legal advice, counsel and training regarding including best practices, and strategies for managing risk in order to mitigate legal exposure while helping to advance the Company's business objectives.
Partner Development & Team Building - Providing direct reports with coaching, feedback, and developmental opportunities and building effective teams:
Challenges and inspires direct reports to help the Companyachieve business results.
Conducts quarterly conversations with direct reports.
Ensures direct reports adhere to legal and operational compliance requirements.
Oversees training and development of direct reports and makes effective staffing decisions.
Provides coaching, direction and leadership support to direct reports and team members in order to achieve partner, business and customer goals.
Summary of Experience
Experience practicing marketing/advertising law including strategic advising, creative review, and commercial contract support in a law firm or company legal department. Minimum of 2-3 years of in-house practice at a Fortune 500 company preferred.
9 years experience practicing law
Experience managing legal professionals
