The Amazon.com Inventory Planning & Control (IPC) team is looking for a passionate, results oriented, customer oriented technical leader to lead our efforts in building the next generation of software systems for Selection Economics. The team’s charter is to build systems to optimize and fully automate the retail selection and assortment planning decisions.
Our team tackles some of the most mathematically complex inventory management challenges in the industry today to create intelligent algorithms to improve Amazon's inventory & operational efficiency worldwide. IPC owns Amazon’s global inventory planning systems - we decide and optimize what, when, where, and how much we should buy to meet Amazon’s business goals and to make our customers happy.

We do this for millions of items, for hundreds of product lines worth billions of dollars of inventory world-wide. Our systems are built entirely in-house, and are on the cutting edge in automated large scale supply chain planning, optimization and simulation systems. IPC is unique in that we’re simultaneously developing the science of supply chain planning and solving some of the toughest computational challenges at Amazon. Unlike many companies who buy existing off-the-shelf planning systems, IPC is responsible for studying, designing, and building systems to suit Amazon’s needs. Our team members have an opportunity to be on the forefront of supply chain thought leadership by working on some of the most difficult problems in the industry with some of the best product managers, research scientists/statisticians/economists and software engineers in the business.

Responsibilities include direct management of software engineers and managers, improvements in process and quality of service, strategic planning, project management, and management of resources across teams. You will act as a leader who can prioritize well, communicate clearly, and have a consistent track record of delivery. You are proactive in removing roadblocks, pave the way for innovation, and can handle multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment. You are an experienced software development leader who understands and sets a high bar for all parts of the software development and deployment lifecycle, including design, development, documentation, testing and operations. You work hand-in-hand with business partners, understand their needs and are able to translate business necessities into value-added features. You are able to handle business escalations with a data-driven approach. You will be responsible for implementing a product vision for IPC-Selection Economics while satisfying scalability, reliability, performance, and budget goals.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex technical information in a clear and concise manner to a variety of audiences.

Understanding of system architecture and experience with large distributed systems is a plus.

Basic Qualifications

BS in Computer Science with at least 10 years of industry experience.
At least 6 years of experience managing enterprise software engineering teams.
Technically credible to lead a team of world class software engineers and development managers and be able to deliver the right product with a scalable engineering design.
The ability to achieve results in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment is critical.
A passion for people management and mentorship; hiring and developing great people
Able to balance technical leadership with sound business judgment.
Has passion and convictions and the innate ability to inspire passion in others
Thinks strategically, but stays on top of tactical execution
Proven track record of software delivery
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex technical information in a clear and concise manner to a variety of audiences
Capable of thinking creatively, deal with ambiguity, and manage changing priorities
Strong analytical and problem solving skills
Demonstrated a bias for action, and experience making things happen in a fast-paced, dynamic environment

Preferred Qualifications

MS in Computer Science
Experience with analytics and large data sets
Experience with retail supply chain management software
