Amazon.com is looking for a Director to lead a strategic initiative across the Home Categories (Furniture, Home Décor and Lawn and Garden). This role is responsible for delivering a world-class customer experience, through selection growth, supply-chain optimization and site improvements across our Home Categories. This leader will build and expand vendor relationships and lead operational process improvements for direct fulfillment.
The candidate will be directly responsible for leading a team a large, including Business Development, Vendor Management, Product Management and Instock/Supply Chain. The leader of this initiative must have extensive experience in recruiting, developing and motivating a fast-growing and large team.

We are seeking an exceptional leader who is comfortable operating in a fast-paced environment with proven experiences in strategic thinking, detailed execution, and people development. S/he is comfortable defining the strategic direction for the business and will successfully lead a diverse team to execute. The successful candidate for this critical leadership position must share the passion and commitment of our team.

The Home Categories are a diverse, fast-growing market segment of over $200B. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter, have a high level of flexibility and commitment, and a strong drive to win. The ideal candidate possesses exceptional communication and negotiating skills, will have the business judgment and analytical horsepower to break down complex problems, and the willingness to roll up his or her sleeves.

Additionally, this leader will be strong at hiring and developing people. S/he will be required to build and develop a team of leaders who can lead several functional areas. S/he must be comfortable working with Chief Operating Officers, Presidents, or Vice Presidents of large, high-profile vendors and suppliers in areas such as strategic planning and contract negotiations. The successful candidate will be entrepreneurial, innovative, and excel at “thinking big,” while also recognizing the need to coordinate his or her team’s activities across the broader organization. Defining and implementing long-term business strategies based on industry trends and competitive analysis and the ability to think outside of the box to solve complex problems are critical to success.

The leader should be able to drive insight and action plans from data. He or she will have implemented or improved processes to gain efficiency and experience driving continuous improvement. He or she will have a proven ability to manage change and deal with adversity and rapidly changing operating conditions while still delivering results.

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor Degree required
MBA is preferred
Experience leading large, diverse organizations and functions.
Demonstrated ability to operate both strategically and tactically in a high-energy, fast-paced environment.
P&L responsibility and proven track record of success defining and delivering innovative big ideas to drive long-term results.
Superior analytical skills. Demonstrated ability to identify and solve ambiguous problems. In particular, identifying customer needs and inventing new ways to meet those needs.
High degree of organization and ability to manage multiple, competing priorities simultaneously.
Successful experience in hiring, people development, and managing large, multi-level teams.
Proven success in contract negotiations with external partners/vendors.
Excellent communication (verbal and written) and collaboration skills that enable earning trust at all levels.
Extreme attention to detail and willingness to roll up your sleeves.
Online experience preferred.
