This is a newly created role within the Legal & Business Affairs team, and will report to the Company's VP, Legal & Business Affairs in New York. You will have primary responsibility for maintaining the Company's relationships with record companies in the US and Europe, and possibly further afield.
Your responsibilities will include:
Label deals
Working in close partnership with the Company's Business Development, Content Acquisition and Label Relations teams in New York and London, you will be responsible for managing SoundCloud's relationships with its record company partners in connection with SoundCloud's unique business model.
This will include drafting and negotiating deals for local repertoire in international markets, amendments to existing deals (including major label deals), and working as a key stakeholder in renewal negotiations at the relevant time. You will need to be a seasoned dealmaker, with a deep understanding of the digital music rights landscape and the label ecosystem, and extensive experience of negotiating international deals for or with digital service providers and/or UGC platforms.
Music rights strategy
Together with the Company's VP, Legal & Business Affairs, you will be a key stakeholder in all major strategic decisions involving music rights, including the international roll-out of the Company's On SoundCloud programme and the international launch of the SoundCloud Go subscription product. You will need to be a commercial strategist, who thinks big and can come up with creative solutions to unique problems.
Label relations
You will represent SoundCloud in its everyday dealings with record companies' business affairs teams. It is important that you have a strong network within the industry, and can build and maintain solid relationships with record companies, industry associations and other stakeholders in the US and internationally.
Commercial advice and guidance
You will be a subject matter expert within the Company, and will be expected to share your knowledge and experience within the team and across the wider organisation to help educate and inform your colleagues. You will give clear and commercially-focussed advice to other teams on matters relating to music rights, and in particular with respect to the scope of rights under SoundCloud's deals with record companies.
Your qualifications
Qualified lawyer* with at least 8 years' relevant experience
Good understanding of the digital music rights landscape in the US
Experience of working in the law department of a record company and/or DSP
Experience in negotiating complex rights deals in multiple territories
Experience of working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
Strategic thinker and creative problem solver

Good relationships within the music, media, and/or consumer tech industry
Excellent drafting and negotiation skills
Fluent in English
