The Commerce Platform Services team is seeking an innovative, results-oriented, cross-functional Director of Software Development, Common Platform Services who will be responsible for product management, software development and operations of platform services that support Amazon.com. In this position, you will guide the efforts of developers across multiple locations as we build global solutions to enable Amazon’s eCommerce platform capability world-wide.

As a technical leader, you are a pragmatic visionary that can translate business needs into technology solutions that scale will help drive the future direction of Amazon.com’s common platform services. You are responsible for driving quality and enabling technical innovation for Value Added Services, Shopping Cart, Aggregation Services, Tenancy Configuration Services, and Operations Automation. You are expected to recruit top talent, manage evolving / complex demands, including multiple projects with dependencies on other internal organizations. You will draw on customer feedback, usage and operational data, and your experience leading technology businesses to set and deliver on aggressive goals for adoption, operational performance, feature delivery, and driving revenue opportunities.

Key Responsibilities:
Responsible for the overall systems development life cycle
Develop the long-term strategy for your programs and translate that into an achievable road map/action plan
Management and execution against project plans and delivery commitments
Manage the day-to-day activities of the teams Management of departmental resources, staffing, mentoring, and enhancing and maintaining a best-of-class team
Work closely with the software engineers to architect and develop the best technical design and approach
Report on status of development, quality, operations, and system performance to management.

Basic Qualifications

10 years of experience building and managing development teams that design and deliver large distributed systems.
5+ years of experience of managing products, budgets and justifying resource needs to senior leaders and finance partners.
5+ years of experience managing and effectively operating a complex system that is highly reliable and scalable
Bachelors of Science or advanced degree in Computer Science or Engineering

Preferred Qualifications

MBA or advanced degree in Computer Science or Engineering
Must be technically credible to lead teams of world-class software engineers and be able to make the right design decisions and technology choices
Business management or a related degree Distributed systems management/design experience
