We are looking for a Copy Director who will bring innovation and creativity to our team The Copy Director provides leadership, vision and strategy to the Levi’s global brand marketing efforts and cross-channel business. They maintain relationships with selected partners, understand their business objectives and strategy, and are able to utilize that knowledge to create best in class copy to address the strategies – assuring the objectives have been met with the proper tone, messaging and matched with vision.
They will be responsible for writing and overseeing the creation of informative and engaging copy that helps emphasize Levi’s brand and product benefits, with the intention of increasing global product sales and consumer awareness of the brand. The Copy Director is an expert in the field of writing. They consistently seek to enhance the level of creativity generated by team members in a wide range of deliverables and mediums, and they ensure all deliverables meet brand standards and requirements.
Key Results:
Owns and manages the brand copy guidelines and continually updates guidelines to coincide with major brand shifts and/or seasonal requirements
Ensure a strong, recognizable and relevant voice for the brand is communicated and executed across all marketing touch points and is consistent with the Levi’s brand identity across all associated mediums
Successfully implements the Global Brand Marketing Priorities into objectives and applies &Co expectations to deliverables.
Responsibilities:
Lead the copy team in creation of best in class marketing communications while considering the consumer mindset in all creative components, working in either a managerial role and a hands on writer role based on the specific needs of the project.
Maintain a strong strategic relationship with channel partners to stay abreast of developments in strategy, objectives, testing initiatives, data and analytics, and retail/wholesale/e-commerce sales & traffic performance.
Promote the professional development of department by encouraging staff to stay abreast on current trends, technology and relevant media.
Provide clear and concise direction to direct reports in terms of developing copy, concepts, troubleshooting issues and setting goals.
Act as the anchor point for aligning creative development work with other channel-specific strategic objectives and build partnerships to bridge the creative connection between cross-functional teams in Marketing, Merchandising and E-commerce.
Shepherd and maintain the Levi’s brand standards and copy guidelines, which will exist as internal marketing communication tools for a variety of content producer audiences in a wide range of mediums.
Create content that adheres to pre-established brand standards — and when necessary — work alongside creative and marketing team leads to further establish brand tone and copy guidelines. All project deliverables will be executed according to these guidelines and departmental best practice.
Partner with art directors, designers and writers to develop fresh concepts and storytelling ideas that accomplish project objectives, maximize the impact of each marketing message, and ensure accuracy in all finished products.
Provide copy direction on small-and large-scale projects from creative conception to completion. This includes brainstorming with creative team on complex projects/campaigns and supervising comprehensive presentations that reflect an understanding of the briefer’s brand strategy and business objectives.
Receive direction and present proposed copy solutions while meeting deadlines on a variety of projects simultaneously. Ensure work is reviewed/approved by leadership before presentation and subsequently vetted by Legal, Marketing and Merchant partners.
Present work to peers, partners and management in a clear, professional manner. Where appropriate, include research that will support chosen strategies.
Work with external vendors to provide creative feedback on outsourced projects and communicate brand updates to these vendors as needed
Demonstrates global cultural awareness with regard to content crossing global borders and leverages consultant resources, as required
Complete formal copy decks for all assigned projects oversee and maintain an organized, up to date set of files (including all versions) within the department’s file servers and asset management systems.
Desired Skills & Experience
Bachelor’s Degree or advanced degree in Journalism or other related areas from an accredited with an emphasis on writing; and/or combined 10 years of on the job experience in a senior management creative role.
Minimum 10+ years of experience in retail/apparel/fashion writing preferably in a globally branded consumer environment or alternatively in a fashion editorial role.
Prior supervision and team management experience required.
Expert understanding of marketing campaign development and the various mediums and channels to execute a campaign: print, video/film, social, digital marketing, email, promotions, e-commerce, retail, wholesale.
Experience collaborating with creative and marketing roles.
Experienced presenting work in a meeting environment to top-level executives and peers.
Creative thinker who can provide a solid portfolio of creative ideas.
Intermediate level in Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint.
Diverse knowledge of the apparel/retail competitive landscape and resourceful use of research mediums.
Detail oriented and meticulous proofreader of your work and other colleagues.
Use visual and creative sensibilities to translate creative concepts into materials for the internal and external consumer.
Ability to take responsibility for all copy management and delegation on complex projects concurrently.
Comfortable with working in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
Compelling presenter.
