The Coca-Cola Freestyle team is growing and is looking for the right engineering leader to help us continue our success. The successful candidate will join the Core Technologies team, which is responsible for the design of the mechanical systems of the unit, with primary responsibility for fluidics subsystems. We need working managers capable of functioning across boundaries to understand customer needs, to design and improve world-leading products, and to put them into production using our stage-gate process.
This role will have principal responsibility to develop and implement specification and verification processes, including appropriate metrics, to ensure the beverages dispensed from Freestyle machines meet all beverage quality and other fluidics requirements. The successful candidate will work with mechanical, software, and electronics team to ensure that all changes to the machine continue to meet expectations. He/she will direct a team of highly-capable engineers working in a highly-matrixed environment to design and release fluidics subsystems (and components).

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Systems Engineering: Expert level knowledge is translating top level stakeholder needs through to project requirements, and down (using appropriate engineering disciplines and due-diligence) to product and process specifications. Demonstrated ability to negotiate with stakeholders where various needs conflict in order to reach an acceptable solution. Demonstrated expertise in developing specifications, including drawings, for designs.

• Quality Planning Disciplines: Primary responsibility and expert-knowledge in specifying and verifying subsystem performance, working across functions to ensure hardware, electrical, and software can design to achieve subsystem requirements. Proficiency in understanding business and technical priorities and in aligning individual and team efforts with those priorities. Communicates concisely where technical choices affect these priorities. Expert-level knowledge in applying DFSS (Design for Six Sigma) tools (DFMEA, Design Verification Planning, etc.) to optimize quality and reliability of the product. Understands and applies reliability, serviceability and sustainability engineering principles and concepts to meet project objectives. Understands sources of variation and develops designs that are robust to these variations.

• Leadership: Demonstrated ability to achieve outstanding results leading teams of technical personnel to develop complex new software-enabled products.
• Documentation: Expert-level ability to lead development and daily management of engineering documentation tools. Develops, applies and sets example following policy and process for design consistency. CADD, Documentation Change Management (Windchill experience preferred). Experience controlling designs using ECN in a formal change management system.

• Fluidics expertise: Proficiency in concepts, practices, and theories used in the design of fluidic circuits, including pumping technologies, nozzles, and flow through tubes and valves. Will have demonstrated the ability to use it in practice and within the engineering lifecycle. Has general knowledge of other engineering disciplines (i.e.: software lifecycle, structures). Works independently with minimal day-to-day supervision.

• Proficiency in design for manufacturability, including test automation. Experience in collaborating cross-functionally and with supplier organizations to ensure the design is manufacturable within project goals. Support for PFMEA and process design demonstrated.

• Proficiency clearly communicating alternatives, including working with financial analysts, purchasing organizations, suppliers, and other organizations to clearly communicate the cost/benefit tradeoffs of the decisions.

• Proficiency in assessing project scope and determining resources required to achieve project goals. Demonstrated proficiency in managing small groups to achieve technical goals.

• Proficiency in assessing alternative technologies, determining appropriate evaluation methods, conducting testing or other evaluations, and determining the pros and cons of each technology.

• Proficiency is reviewing designs and collaborating to identify risks and improvements. Clear focus on getting the best design, regardless of whose idea it is.

• Proficiency is working within a stage-gate development process to cascade top level project requirements to lower level subsystem and component specifications.

• Proficiency in technical management of suppliers. Develops and applies metrics to supplier partners as needed. Finds win/win scenarios when working with supplier partners.

• Proficiency in technical project management—developing, documenting, and executing work streams in support of multiple projects. Works cross-functionally to provide technical support.

• Proficient in communicating complex technical situations in an understandable way. Flexibility where changes in the business environment dictate changes in direction as we develop new technical solutions. Positive attitude and focus on achieving the goals.

EXPERIENCE:

• BSME, BSAeroE, BSEE from ABET-accredited engineering program or equivalent experience.

• 15+ years’ experience in product development.

• Experience with designing fluidic/hydraulic circuits and components within a complex product.

• Excellent communication skills—both written and oral.

• Disciplined problem solving skills using DMAIC/8D/A3 or similar methodology.

• Expert-level experience developing functional specifications.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• MSME, MSEE or MSAero strongly preferred.

• Coca-Cola Freestyle experience.

• Manufacturing engineering experience.
