The Director, Program Management will drive a program portfolio for Rovi’s guide solutions. This includes processes for planning, implementation and delivery of projects. Where necessary it means implementing or creating new processes. In addition the Director will be hands-on in managing 3-5 program managers in the guide solutions space. The ideal candidate will have had proven leadership success and be team oriented, and deliver in a highly collaborative work environment. A strong technical, strategic and product background is important. Strong communication, creative problem solving, ability to negotiate and adaptability are all skills that are critical to this role.
The Everyday View
Portfolio Management:
Manage the intake process for new program initiation across the key engineering, product management and sales leaders
Manage the ongoing review/approval of program priorities within the portfolio to ensure the highest priority programs are getting the necessary attention and resources
Build solid working relationships with key stakeholders across Rovi
Have a strategic view of what is important
Program Management:
Drive creation and management of integrated program plans and end-to-end solutions plans
Facilitate work of functional groups as necessary to ensure that all project deliverables are created and delivered in accordance with the approved work plan.
Ensure that high-level program status information is kept up-to-date
Review status summary materials and present to management on a regular basis
Escalate as appropriate
Ensure effective and proactive communications to project stakeholders
Proactively anticipate problems and build risk mitigation plans accordingly
Drive issues to resolution
Become a change agent to implement new product development processes
Team Management:
Direct and oversee a team of program managers. This involves the recruiting, on-boarding, and mentoring of team members as well as writing/communicating team member performance evaluations.
Guide and mentor a team of program managers to grow their skills and more effectively drive programs to create high value for Rovi
Required Skills & Experience
10+ years’ professional experience in software engineering, project and program management
Minimum of 5+ years’ experience leading program management teams and managing program and project managers
Minimum of 3+ years’ experience with agile development and agile program management.
Diverse background managing projects, programs, and PMO groups for a broad range of business functions, including experience delivering complex engineering, product, and operations projects
Has driven both straightforward projects, and projects with clear goals but uncertain roadmaps
Loves the role of Program Management and can be a role model for others
Practical experience with risk analysis and conflict resolution
Ability to multitask and perform under pressure and meet deadlines
Exceptional written and verbal communication, presentation, coaching, and mentoring skills
Ability to present to all position levels, from individual contributors to executives
Excellent organizational skills
Ability to work independently to achieve goals established in a team environment
Scrum Master and/or Product Owner certification preferred.
A bachelor’s degree in computer science, a related field of study or equivalent work experience is required. The level of the offer will be commensurate with the years of experience of the candidate.
