Amazon Publishing seeks an Art Director in its Seattle office. The successful candidate will have a proven record of creating and managing world-class book covers and interiors in both physical and e-book formats and in partnering with external vendors and freelancers to achieve design goals. They will understand the complexity of physical and online marketing, drive visual standards for different genres in global markets, and conduct data-driven design analysis.
· Create and evolve imprint-level design strategies. Develop and strengthen imprint branding, including style and usage guides.
· Improve the efficiency of the end-to-end interior design process.
· Reimagine the end-to-end cover design process.
· Partner with internal teams to present cover designs and creative for stakeholder sign-off.
· Boost team knowledge of book design and trends in physical and e-book design.
· Understand and respond to marketing and merchandising performance data.
· Work inside content management system and adhere to design schedule with production managers and other stakeholders.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
· An online portfolio or samples of work demonstrating 6+ years of art direction.
· Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills. Ability to communicate effectively with senior management and an intense customer focus.
· Ability to juggle multiple priorities and make things happen in a fast-paced environment. Strong bias for action.
· Proficiency in a variety of design tools such as Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign.
· An expert understanding of the trends in visual design.
· Experience working with image licensing houses.
· Bachelor's degree in design or equivalent.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
· Experience defining and maintaining a design style guide
· Experience working in online interactive design.
· Experience setting up photo shoots and working with illustrators
· Experience in book cover localization
