Job Description:
This position is responsible for the full Systems Development Lifecycle for core Human Resources (HR) Products, supporting Product Engineering and leading mostly Product & Integration Teams to ensure delivery of business solutions that meet business needs and user stories. This Director role will be responsible for managing a team that is focused on end-to-end designing, developing and implementing applications in partnership with their HR Business Partners.
This role requires expertise in leading a team of Technical Project Managers, Engineers and QA resources in delivering world class HR capabilities for American Express, significantly improving our internal corporate employee experience. The leader will need to display ‘growth mindset’ leadership characteristics via sustained tangible demonstration of courage and risk taking, collaboration, innovation – all in an agile fashion! Provides direction for technical and business resources, actively participates in long-range strategy planning to address complex business issues. Coordinates project efforts with cross-functional teams within Corporate Innovation as well as across AXP Technologies teams, jointly working to manage risk and align on delivery of key HR capabilities. Works with multiple HR Business leaders, senior-level architects, and HR Tech senior leadership team to define overall HR Product strategies. Provides value added strategic leadership and consulting services to HR Business Partners in the form of project prioritization, design, platform recommendations and deployment of strategic technical solutions. This includes but is not limited to developing alternative solutions and corresponding impact analysis and presentations in a concise and clear manner, at both a technical and non-technical level. Partners with the Corporate Innovation Ideation and Delivery team in delivering MVP proofs of concept and test and learns.



Job Responsibilities
Enables coordination of Engineering and delivery teams, Architects and Quality Assurance to drive alignment and ensure delivery of key priorities while ensuring regular communication or delivery and financial status
Leads multi-located teams in the delivery of prioritized internal development efforts. Partners with Portfolio Architects to provide vendor governance and oversight on the delivery of key solutions to HR Business Partners for core HR Products (People Management (MYHR), Compensation, Global Digital Signature, Rewards Blue, Employee Relations & all HR related Merger & Acquisition activities. Regrouping of various HR capabilities over time may occur based on HR priorities and investment demand.
Reviews and oversees portfolio delivery plans in terms of schedule, cost, scope and quality
Supports and guides the solution delivery development process, collaborating effectively across multiple cross-functional teams to skillfully execute on milestones and deliverables in a timely manner
Participates in the engagement of delivery and/or support teams, anticipates risks and issues, and negotiates where necessary to resolve any resourcing conflicts that may arise due to availability or skill
Promotes continuous improvement in both AXP Technology delivery processes and Third Partner Vendor processes to drive overall improvements in quality and performance
Actively engages in resourcing processes to ensure organization agility
Leads appropriate relevant agile principles adopting Delivery Transformation design principles where appropriate – continues this journey for the team/portfolio as the team has already begun the journey mostly leveraging Kanban given the nature of this portfolio
Ensures adherence of portfolio (or Platform) supported relevant compliance requirements
Works with the Service Delivery and External Vendors to ensure quality and performance of portfolio/platform
Manages multiple projects or a logical grouping of projects (for example, by line-of-business, platform or region)

Required Skills/Qualifications
Prior relevant professional work experience with application development life-cycle, Agile (Scrum, Kanban, Scrumban or other agile hybrid) or other rapid application development methods
Bachelor’s Degree in related field required; advanced degree preferred
Experience driving large scale product delivery including change and financial management
Requires prior management, supervisory experience
Demonstrated experience with system architecture, design & integration as well as business knowledge in multiple disciplines
Deep expertise across a broad range of technology and experience with employee facing applications a plus
HR Technology and prior consulting experience preferred
Maintains awareness of technical and HR industry advancements to promote product roadmap adjustments
Preferred experience with leading and working across multi-location and multi-country-based teams
Previous experience in managing 3rd parties and /or packaged software
Strong executive presence and communication skills to lead Business Partner financial, project, or application performance reviews
Able to travel
