Job Description:
As part of the Studio Leadership team, to oversee and direct the Creative Studio Administration staff, Programs (Advanced Technology, Attraction Show Quality, The Props and Model Shop), oversight of internal and external resources; and support Project development activities. Directs department business plans; long term strategies; and long range, annual operating budgets, policies and procedures.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Administration
Directs Creative Studio Administration activities and staff. Develop and monitor departmental operating and capital budgets. Develop, implement and monitor personnel, project and program policies and procedures.
Directs administrative management of Studio departments (Administration, Architecture, Concept, Design, Media, and Producing).
Manages Studio and project outside resource requirements. Manage and oversee Creative Studio vendor contract processes, commitments and invoices. Negotiates outside resources as necessary.
Directs development, implementation and monitoring of the departmental operating, project and program budgets. Represents the Studio in regular finance reviews with Finance Department.
Directs annual and day-to-day Studio IT hardware and software requirements.
Personnel Management
Directs Studio and Project short and long-term creative design resource and assignment planning. Ensure resources are available for Project requirements. Prepare staffing plans and organizational charts.
Partner with Human Resources to seek out, recruit and acquire talent. Participate in interviews, portfolio reviews, etc.
Oversee Studio talent retention and development initiatives, as well as implementation of talent and team-building programs.
Oversee development and implementation of Studio intern and design associate programs.
Program Management
Directs Studio Programs (Advanced Technology, Attraction Show Quality, The Props and Model Shop) operations, staffing, operations, planning and funding.
Props & Model Shop - Directs the Props Team administration, facilities, estimating, budget, project resources, and planning. Ensure workload and staffing levels are balanced. Oversee short and long term resource and strategic planning. Interface with project teams to develop prop and model strategies. Ensure adherence to safety standards and procedures.
Attraction Show Quality – Directs and grows the team’s show quality mission. Oversee Program administration, activities, budget, planning and resources.
Advanced Technology – Directs, in partnership with S/R Engineering leadership, supports and manages the ATI program mission and team. Work with the team to develop strategies and planning, assist with work plan and resource development and recruiting.
Projects
Assist Studio Leadership in strategizing and managing scope, schedule and budget for Studio projects. Support Studio project development as needed.
Partners with Executive Producer to develop Capital Authorization Requests for Studio Projects, coordinates with Attraction Development and Finance to secure project funding.
In partnership with Studio Executive Producer and responsible Show Producer, develop and manage project work plans, estimates, budgets, schedules, staffing plans and org charts for the Studio during the development of initial blue sky, concept, schematic and subsequent project phases.
Assist in developing scopes of work and RFPs. Monitor outside consultants for compliance with agreements and budgets.
Stay current on technology, industry, IP, and competition.
SCOPE: Responsible for multi-million dollar studio and project budget development and compliance.
Qualifications/RequirementsStrong management portfolio. Experience in creative organization management, work planning, budgeting, scheduling, bid package preparation and variety of vendors. Knowledge of theme park technologies including ride, A/V, robotics, engineering, and various show systems. Knowledge of entertainment / theme park related architectural, project management, organizational, and production/construction practices. Demonstrates ability to lead staff, to instill a spirit of teamwork and promote staff development. Makes independent choices free from immediate supervision. Possesses skills to support the creative process and to facilitate positive and productive communication between all disciplines.
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree is required. Master’s degree is preferred.
EXPERIENCE: 10 - 15 years: Minimum 9 years of entertainment / theme park creative development experience, attraction development and/or creative management experience. Demonstrated experience in resolving complex creative challenges to produce highly competitive products that are consistent with the Universal brand identity; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
