Senior Director Field Marketing Ciena Maryland

Job Description:
This director will have responsibility across all functions of the role, including planning, budgeting, execution and measurement of key activities. Cross functional collaboration is key; understanding the goals of the region, successful engagement with functional leaders, and translating what ways marketing can help the region overachieve their desired results is the task at hand. But no single leader can accomplish these goals by themselves; they must add value to an established and successful field team, be incitefull, leverage past successes and learn from past failures. In the end it’s about applying best practices, honed though experience, for accelerated growth.

Coordinate Marketing functions to best improve/solidify Ciena’s position in the North American market
Develop/Own annual North American (VSEM) Vision-Strategy-Execution and Metrics document which then translates into North American Marketing (POR) Plan-of-Record which outlines exactly how metrics and goals will be accomplished.
Support the overall Marketing strategy, and maintain a close relationship with other sister marketing groups
Develop/regionalize solution and value propositions content for the selected market and associated verticals both TO and through partners
Leverage and adapt corporate marketing programs and activities to help generate leads, promote Ciena brand awareness and influence customers and analysts
Develop and manage TO customer and partner marketing demand programs and content strategy, coordinating with field marketing and sales teams.
Help structure and oversee key metrics and KPIs with regional demand center
Work with North American teams to ensure the building of a cadence and consistency in corporate channel marketing communications: “one consistent voice to the channel partners”
Support the company's value proposition(s), offering/ segment messaging, and manage/monitor their delivery
Drive/execute/evaluate marketing strategies and tactics that drive demonstrable revenue, share gains and customer/partner engagement
Required Skills
Proven track record of building relationships and partnerships internally and externally.
Strong program management skills and a drive towards overachievement.
Proven people management experience and innovation to utilize resources effectively; ideally with a field and channel marketing role.
Strong understanding of networking products, services, software and architectures within the marketplace Ciena plays.
Proven understanding of all facets of marketing; brand building, revenue marketing, channel management are three key areas.
Required Experience
Bachelor's Degree in Marketing or related field; Master of Business Administration (MBA) preferred
10+ years marketing experience, including leadership stints in any or all of the following; segment marketing, partner marketing, demand generation, market research and audience marketing
Channel experience required; do you understand the nuances of working with channel partners?
Proven writing, editing, verbal communication skills. Can you give some examples?
Ability to successfully lead and navigate in a dispersed North American team environment and covering both the United States and Canadian markets
Strong foundation knowledge of modern digital tools and storytelling strategies.
In-depth understanding of the industry, offering categories and company offerings/ strategy
Proven project and budget management skills
Ability to communicate complex ideas in “layman’s” terms
Self-directed with initiative to cover responsibilities proactively rather than wait for actions; enthusiastic; able to deal with and clarify unknowns or ambiguity
Ability to identify Ciena business objectives and to lead execution to meet business objectives.
