Job Description:
The Group Director, Digital Activation role is to provide media leadership on digital strategies and priorities for multiple businesses/brands. The Group Director sets the working style for the Digital team, leads the strategic direction and is tasked with being a marketing partner for the clients. The individual in this role demonstrates an in-depth knowledge of all aspects of their client’s business as well as the overall technology/competitive landscape
The Group Director is responsible for cultivating client and media relationships specifically at senior levels, being the “ultimate” digital media consultant to the client. This individual is also charged with all general digital management aspects of the team, including team collaboration, team harmony, and big-picture strategic thinking. The Group Director is also expected to collaborate closely with Planning team leadership; this includes portfolio projects and priorities, brand level tactical planning and strategic development, and innovation.
The Group Director’s role is also one of agency leadership. The individual in this position is responsible for contributing to agency and department initiatives, media operations, and new business efforts.
Media Activation and Execution:
Directors through Assistants
Accountable for digital plan output timeliness, accuracy, and overall excellence
Actively provide and discuss industry information on media, markets and related dynamics
Create client savings analyses based on billing and invoices
Responsible for ensuring that all budgets and campaign plans are aligned with client budget parameters
Understand and adopt new techniques and technologies that are relevant for clients’ digital media strategies
Provide and discuss industry information on media, markets and related dynamics
Maintain relationships with media community; continue to develop publisher and higher relationships for exchange of ideas
Set negotiation strategies
May participate in the creation and negotiation of yearly client contracts and supplemental proposals
Client & Internal Relationships:
Build and maintain trusting, collaborative relationships with senior clients
Manage expectations of clients and deliverables
Accurately represent the client’s point of view when reviewing work, leverage this perspective when providing feedback to team and presenting to client
Ensure collaboration among all agency disciplines; foster great teamwork
Grow business opportunities within current clients, where appropriate
Actively represent Carat within industry (attending industry functions, joining local market committees)
Participate and present in New Business efforts and presentations, when appropriate
Strategic Thinking & Leadership:
Lead overarching digital strategic thinking, ensure media strategy is aligned with broader media strategy and with client objectives
View strategic goals in a broader business context
Demonstrate strong analytical and strategic skills to help solve client’s business problems
Develop and maintain digital planning processes and procedures across team
Implement efficient and effective solutions to complex problems
Ensure key information is provided to team regarding client issues, internal agency issues, changes in account status, etc.
Manage assigned groups’ staffing needs (hiring, promotions, performance)
Manage staff utilization
Train, motivate and develop assigned staff
Construct and deliver accurate, honest and timely performance management documents
Arrive at solutions that balance the needs of Dentsu Aegis, Carat and clients
Communications Skills:
Encourage open, ongoing internal communication
Establish and maintain communications process with clients, offline media teams, creative, etc. for each piece of business within the team
Direct the development of client presentations and other important communication, communication that is clear, compelling and persuasive
Lead client presentations
Communicate key information about our company
Adapts communication style to relevant audience
Links communication to audience’s concerns and perspectives
Moves audience to desired action through clear and persuasive delivery of information
Desired Skills and Experience
EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
Bachelor’s Degree
15 + years of media planning experience, which include progressive client management experience
Extensive digital knowledge and experience, including current landscape, trends, innovations, strategic plan development
Unparalleled client service professionalism, maturity, and diplomacy
Strong understanding of client’s business environment and agency services business models
Proven leadership ability – experience managing multiple groups of planners, supervisors and directors
Proven ability to think strategically, with a balanced analytical and creative approach, and the ability to teach others to think strategically
Research savvy
Ability to generate big ideas with strong motivational skills that can apply to all staff levels
Collaborative and able to successfully bring people from different disciplines, internally and externally, together to achieve desired outcomes
High-level proficiency in MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook
