We have an amazing group of talented individuals who are developing world class e-commerce and direct to consumer solutions for Motorola Mobility (MMI). As a key member of the ecommerce/Direct to Consumer team, you will be at the center of the action and will have an immediate impact on projects that are highly strategic and highly visible to the Motorola Senior Leadership team. The Director of Software Development - e-commerce will be responsible for developing the IT platform needed to support Motorola’s presence on the web.
This includes developing a technical vision, strategy and roadmap and delivering software projects and capabilities to support the global expansion of our IT e-commerce platform. Our operating model is based on agile development, DevOps and cloud. The Director of Software Development - e-commerce will work with IT, product management, sales and customer service peers and other teams across Motorola to plan and execute highly strategic IT programs while maintaining alignment with frequent and rapid changes in our business. This position is based in Chicago. Our Chicago headquarters are at the Merchandise Mart in the heart of River North. Docents on the Architecture tour now refer to the Merchandise Mart as the “High Tech Center of Chicago” due to our presence there.
Scope of Responsibilities:
Define the vision and execute the strategy for elastic, cloud-based ecommerce platforms and technologies for Motorola Mobility Optimize the DevOps processes with the aim to achieve full automation, continuous integration and efficient environments for developers and testers. Lead a DevOps/Agile Development team with the objective to deliver high quality software, on time and within budget Coach developers based on own coding experience and drive continuous improvements in code quality, process quality and platform performance Establish a data-driven and fact-based culture, leveraging application performance and quality management tools Collaborate with business and product owners in scrums teams and drive innovative ideas for the e-commerce experience Drive innovative technical solutions in the areas of architecture, infrastructure, integration, tools, deployment methods, testing and quality assurance, performance optimization, metrics and dashboards Ensure scalability, robustness and reliability of the e-commerce platform, services and systems and support the Network Operations Center in troubleshooting and incident resolution Continuously look for opportunities to improve processes, architecture and organization Work with suppliers and technology partners and optimize the spend on external resources and continuously increase the level of services through tenacious vendor management practices Effectively manage globally distributed teams of employees and contractors Communicate progress, results and opportunities to business and technology executives
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree or Masters Degree
10+ years in software development, 6+ years in people management
Preferred Qualifications:
MS in Computer Science or Computer Engineering Years of experience: 15+ years in software development, 8+ years in people management Experience and thorough understanding of DevOps, Agile Development and Cloud Experience with architecting and operating high performance, high volume e-commerce systems Experience with leading e-commerce platforms and content management systems, both on premise and SaaS. Experience with service oriented architecture Deep understanding of Physical, Virtual and Cloud Infrastructure for ecommerce Analytical skills and ability to take data-based and fact-based decisions Ability to review code and architecture with senior developers and senior architects Strong organizational and communication skills. Ability to work with culturally diverse teams in multiple locations Vendor management experience and ability to hold vendors accountable for SLAs Understanding of the e-commerce business and the consumer electronics and/or telecommunications industries
