Job Description:
Develops, implements, and coordinates Engineering services concerned with design, construction, modification, and maintenance of buildings, equipment and machinery by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors.
Essential Functions
The duties include providing leadership, guidance, and personnel development from both administrative and technical base.
Lead and support equipment and facility modifications and upgrades for automated systems. Identify new automation technologies that may enhance site operations.
Demonstrate technical knowledge to write detailed equipment/facility specifications in relation to process control systems and related technology.
Monitor and control all technical, financial, and managerial tasks associated with project execution from conception and through design, construction and validation.
Develops short-term and long-term departmental and facility planning objectives; operating budget responsibility in excess of $1.0MM; provides leadership and guidance in all of the above areas for supervisory and managerial staff reporting to the incumbent.
Enhance the mechanical, electrical, and troubleshooting skills within the department; provide technical resources to other departments within the organization regarding facilities and equipment issues; improve upon the departmental systems used to facilitate the workload; represent and foster harmonious relationships both inter and intra-departmentally.
“Hands-on” Engineering/Maintenance activities; interface with external organizations such as the EPA, DEA, the FDA, insurance investigators, the building/fire commissioner, and others; troubleshoot equipment failures after the best of the department’s efforts have failed.
Responsible for fire detection system design and installation. The incumbent must also provide computerization expertise until such time an additional training and/or personnel have been acquired.
Most of the incumbent’s time is spent finding the best solution to problems, selling the best solution to both top management and the other contributors, and developing an effective implementation plan. The problems typically encountered involve personnel issues, facility issues, and equipment maintenance issues.
Provides technical support for Research and Development for equipment, process control, material handling and storage.
Additional Responsibilities
Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, training, planning, assigning and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems. Hires, disciplines and terminates employees, rates employees’ performance, develops departmental and plan Standard Operating Procedures and sound managerial practices; evaluates hazards within the facility for safety, health and environmental risks.
Supervisory Responsibilities
The incumbent supervises the following: Managers, supervisors, Engineer and Technicians and facilitates their efforts as a group in conjunction with the organizations requirements. Maintenance Managers, Project Engineer, and Calibration Technicians. All areas of formal supervision are included such as performance appraisals, hiring, termination, work direction and personnel development. In addition, since the majority of physical work is performed by outside contractors, the incumbent must coordinate each of the contractors and their personnel. This can vary to as many as 50 workers at a time.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field, Master’s Degree preferred.
Minimum of 10 years related experience and 4 years managerial experience.
Must have pharmaceutical experience
