Job Description:
As a key member of the Services Division management team, the Managing Director of Operations is a dynamic, high paced and success-driven individual ready to take over responsibility for all global operations. She/he will lead our team of over 300 patent search professionals and support staff located in the US, Europe, India and Asia. She/he will combine industry experience, operational know-how, commercial acumen and strategic thinking enabling growth and profitability with new and existing clients.
Over and above her/his role, the MD Operations will take a strategic interest in the direction of the overall Services Division and contribute to shaping future development plans.
Provide effective leadership and management of the IP Search and IP Analytics division, ensuring coordination and efficiency of on-shore and off-shore teams, requiring a broad and deep knowledge of all products and services.
Implement and maintain an organizational structure supportive the business’ strategic goals, balancing the short-term and long-term priorities; identify, recruit, mentor and retain strong management teams for each business division.
Providing nurturing, strong and decisive leadership to the employees within the organization; protect and develop a culture of support and a team-based approach to management and client service.
Engage directly with our clients to understand their needs and drivers, to identify new opportunities, and to ensure their satisfaction; foster client relationships built on long-term support and partnership.
Partner closely with Sales and Marketing to provide operational support and enable a team-based approach to business development and sales; align operations to provide sales with the tools, products and services to present a compelling offer to current and potential clients.
Implement appropriate measurement metrics to enhance operational efficiency and strengthen quality; provide appropriate reports and data to measure progress against targets.
Actively manage the P&L for each division according the annual budget; provide accurate and timely financial and business level data for accurate forecasting and planning.
Draw on deep knowledge of Intellectual Property to lead the identification and development of new products and services that are complementary to current portfolio and meet the client’s stated and unstated needs.
Desired Skills and Experience
Substantial experience with Intellectual Property, specifically related to patent searching and analytics; patent agent or patent attorney qualification preferred
Has a successful track record in managing Profit & Loss accounts exceeding $30,000,000 annual budget
Demonstrates leadership, advanced people management skills (minimum 150 people) and emotional intelligence at all levels
Is a proven change management expert
Is able to challenge generally accepted ways of working to achieve measurable improvements
Has strong stakeholder management skills (both internal and external)
Has robust experience in spotting and developing client opportunities, influencing clients at senior level and building long term relationships
Displays advanced analytic and problem solving skills
Shows excellent presentation and communication skills.
