Job Description:
The Director of SEC Reporting (CPA) manages a medium to large size group of employees engaged in the external reporting function. The primary responsibility is the filing of forms with the SEC (10-K, 10-Q, 8-K, etc). The work involves a high level of independent judgment, decision making, creativity and initiative where interpretation of policies and procedures is required. The Assistant Director is responsible for initiating, developing, maintaining or implementing policies, programs and procedures within the SEC reporting function.
Reporting Process:
Research, analyze and apply specialized accounting / reporting guidance relating to FASB, SEC and XBRL rules and regulations
Identify, interpret and analyze potential accounting risks and issues
Prepare, analyze and select methods of presenting various data
Solve problems and develop process improvements
Communication Responsibilities:
Collaborate with executives from various finance functions
Write reports and summaries of findings in a clear and concise fashion
Draft disclosures in conformity with established GM style and policies
Develop and present data to other members of the organization
Management Responsibilities:
Manage a department of approximately 10 people
Balance many projects at one time
Train, coach, develop and evaluate employees within the group
Desired Skills and Experience
Basic Requirements:
CPA certification and/or MBA
College degree with a major in accounting or business administration or equivalent
10 or more years finance experience
Big 4 or regional accounting firm experience, including public company experience
Demonstrated ability to meet goals and objectives under a stringent timeline
Demonstrated problem solving and analytical abilities
Demonstrated ability to work with a high level of initiative
Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated commitment to teamwork and partnerships
Ability to prioritize assignments/projects and multi-task within restricted time constraints
Preferred Requirements:
Ability to network and collaborate cross-functionally
Knowledge of XBRL and prior experience in applying XBRL concepts
