Job Description:
The YMCA of Greater Seattle is actively searching for a dynamic leader to join our Finance team as Director of Finance. As an integral part of the FAMIS (Finance, Accounting, Member & Donor Services, and Information Services) team, the successful candidate will need to be a facilitator of change and have the ability to effectively motivate a group of diverse personalities to accomplish department goals.

Ideally, you must have a solid background in finance (7-10 yrs) and an understanding of GAAP, a demonstrated ability to interact with senior leaders and board members, and strong problem solving, analytical, and organizational skills.

PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES

Budgeting

Oversees and lead the annual operating, non-operating and endowment budgeting and planning process; ensures the budget is developed and aligned with strategic and operational plans and prepared with accuracy, reasonableness and completeness.
Provides guidance to budget owners, ensures integrity of budget tools and prepares and delivers staff training to build capacity and understanding around budgeting and revenue accounting.
Identifies opportunities for process improvement, simplification and optimization.
Financial Planning, Analysis and Modeling

Establishes and manages short and long-term financial and operational forecasts, outlines opportunities and challenges facing the organization, and offers suggestions for how to address both.
Provides a narrative of trend and variance analysis of monthly and annual financial statements against budget and prior year actuals.
Leads modeling and reporting for all streams of revenue.
Minimizes the need for staff to develop elaborate Excel-based spreadsheets for forecasting or tracking.
Prepares Capital Campaign forecasts and assists in the creation of multi-year and annual forecasts.
Assists in the development of business plans and cost / benefit analyses for new initiatives.
Advances the current level of organizational sophistication and coordinates the development of increased rigor in financial planning.
Works with the Business Intelligence department to create a monthly financial dashboard.
Works with the CFO to provide leadership, support, business cases and analyses for mergers and acquisitions (M&A).
Decision Support

Provides pro-active support and analysis for the CFO, senior management and operational leaders.
Participates as a key thought leader on the Finance, Accounting, Member & Donor Services and Information Services (FAMIS) team.
Provides the CFO Board and Committee meeting support.
Staffing

Designs, establishes and maintains an organizational structure and staffing to effectively accomplish the goals and objectives of the Finance department and FAMIS.
Coaches, mentors, motivates and manages Finance staff. Provides guidance and direction to them to hit department and individual goals with clear instructions on what is expected of them.
Other

Oversees treasury functions.
Other duties as assigned.
Desired Skills and Experience
POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting or equivalent.
7 - 10 years overall finance experience with progressive responsibility
3-5 years leading finance teams
Demonstrated understanding of GAAP.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Demonstrated experience dealing with senior executives and board members.
Strong problem solving, analytical and organizational skills.
Demonstrated expertise with financial systems and strong ability with Microsoft Office suite, including advanced skills in Microsoft Excel.
Proven track record of financial management, modeling and forecasting.
Outstanding management and planning skills.
PREFERRED POSITION ATTRIBUTES AND SKILLS

MBA in finance or related field preferred.
Knowledge of and previous experience with diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.).
Language proficiency in addition to English
EFFECT ON END RESULTS

This position has a direct effect on the operations of the Association by providing analysis and recommendations to senior leadership and other leaders on past, current and future performance, improving decision making, facilitating the allocation of resources and ensuring the organization is on track to fulfill its mission.
