Job Description:
The Director of Creative Strategy for the National Geographic Society is responsible for identifying and developing creative, impactful ways to share the important work of National Geographic scientists, conservationists, and explorers as well as its cause initiatives with multiple audiences around the world.
This person works closely with all divisions of NGS to develop the creative concepts, campaigns and messaging that clearly communicate the National Geographic Society as a global nonprofit. This person will also develop the creative concepts, campaigns and messaging that builds a community of engaged members, donors, partners, and educators who want to join with the National Geographic Society and advance its mission of exploring and protecting our planet.
This position is part of the National Geographic Society Marketing and Engagement team and reports into the Creative Director.
Responsibilities
Develop concepts and create marketing campaigns for the National Geographic Society and its various initiatives. (40%)
Provide creative expertise to science, conservation, exploration, and education outreach. (20%)
Articulate the National Geographic brand story, and collaborate across all divisions to ensure cohesive messaging across platforms. (15%)
Develop and engage passion-based communities with the goal of inspiring action. (15%)
Manage and direct the work of freelancer designers, writers and editors as needed (10%)
Minimum Education Required
Bachelor's degree, preferably in a marketing discipline.
Minimum Years and Type of Experience
10 or more years of extensive experience creating campaigns and marketing materials for nationally recognized media organizations and websites. Experience working for a non-profit organization is also strongly desired; direct response and fundraising experience is a plus. An outstanding portfolio is essential for consideration. Portfolio should demonstrate strong conceptual abilities, standout creative thinking, and exceptional writing skills.

This key position calls for a seasoned creative professional who is able to consistently craft engaging messages through strong concepts, writing and inspirational storytelling. Strong critical thinking, problem solving, and interpretive skills are essential.
