Novartis is recruiting for a Business Development & Licensing/ Finance - Manager/Director role. This position could be based in East Hanover, New Jersey or Basel Switzerland.

Responsibilities
The Business Development & Licensing/Finance Director will be responsible for the following:
Provides independent first class financial support to all BD&L transactions including large and complex transactions. Takes lead role in making recommendations for improvement and implementation of key actions
Proactive in ensuring delivery, collation and interpretation of financial input from key stakeholders in BD&L deals including FRA, Tax , Funds Flow, TechOps, Portfolio Management, Development, Marketing in a timely manner to enable all key deadlines to be met throughout the evolution of each deal to which the individual is assigned. Takes proactive role in feeding back to deal leader on implications of such issues succinctly and quickly
Leads analysis of financial models underpinning deal terms; analyses deal economics quickly to identify key value drivers and proactively looks at key sensitivities well in advance. Specifically responsible for preparation of P&L’s, discounted cash flow analyses, sensitivity analyses and all financial slides for DRC; inputs directly and collates other financial input for contracts. Makes clear recommendations on deal terms and internal presentations at all stages of a deal in order to maximize value to Novartis while minimizing risk
Trusted member of the Deal Team; has the ability to act as a trusted member of the Deal Team in face to face negotiations with external parties, even those which are particularly large or complex
Constructively challenges deal terms which do not meet internal targets or are perceived to be inappropriate in terms of risk to Novartis
Leads internal projects, irrespective of size or complexity
Strong communicator with an ability to represent a BD&L transaction at top management levels within Novartis
Requirements
Position will be filled at level commensurate with experience. A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree is required, finance, accounting or business; MBA is preferred. Minimum of 10 years experience in finance, accounting, and business operations. 1 year of Finance transaction/deal experience is required, as well as a solid understanding of accounting principles and current IFRS as it relates to BD&L transactions. Candidate must have demonstrated superior financial analysis capabilities. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, are needed due to coordination and dissemination of important and confidential information used to make investment decisions. Candidate must have the ability to work with and diplomatically challenge high level personnel within Novartis, from other companies, and from external organizations retained to assist in the transactions (e.g. lawyers, consultants, due diligence teams). Team leadership, project management, and negotiation skills are required. Detailed knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry including customers and competition is a plus. Candidate must demonstrate initiative, creativity, and ability to work under pressure, often to tight deadlines
