Job Description:
The Director, Public Policy Development will provide critical insights and generate tools and collateral for use by Visa Inc. executives on a range of public policy topics impacting Visa Inc. and the broader electronic payments industry.
The Director will work as part of a small but highly impactful group of senior thought leaders in the Public Policy Development Unit of the Visa Global Public Policy Department, which has responsibility for proactively developing the company’s official public policy positions; partnering with other corporate functions and geographic business leadership to drive business initiatives that address or align with significant global policy trends; delivering a comprehensive research agenda in support of Visa’s increased interaction with government decision-makers; and developing a central repository of Visa and third party research, regulatory submissions, and other relevant source material.
The Director will be based in Visa Inc’s head office in San Francisco and reports to the Group Lead, Global Public Policy Department.
The successful candidate will be recognized as a leader by peers and executives and be responsible for driving initiatives to completion across functions and regions.
Responsibilities
Advise the Group Lead, Vice Presidents (Public Policy Development) and other business executives with advice related to global public policy trends.
Contribute to the formation of public policy positions on key issues facing Visa, our clients and the wider electronic payments sector.
Develop and deliver specific research programs and outcomes in support of key public policy challenges and opportunities faced by the company globally or in specific markets and regions.
Support the research, engagement and wider agenda of the Global Public Policy Department, including managing key research components of Department projects.
Write or commission public policy position papers and develop other practical tools on specific topics that are relevant to Visa’s ongoing interaction with central bank and other government officials, with an emphasis on consumer-related issues, innovation and technology issues.
Coordinate with other internal functions at Visa including, but not limited to, Government Relations, Product, Legal, Corporate Strategy, the Chief Economist and Visa Business and Economic Insights, Risk and Corporate Communications to ensure consistency of corporate positions and decisions across all parts of the organization.
Support local and regional business executives and government relations professionals with specific requests for information, industry data and background information received from central bank and other government officials.
Ensure proper coordination and leveraging of research material developed through other functions and other regions of the company.
Qualifications
4+ years of work in roles focused on consumer-related issues and/or innovation and technology in either a public policy, commercial, legal, regulatory or enforcement capacity.
Some degree of exposure to public policy and/or government affairs.
Advanced academic degree preferred.
Knowledge of the retail electronic payments industry preferred, along with strong business acumen.
Strong research skills and experience including superior analytical capabilities.
High degree of leadership, independent negotiation and decision-making skills.
Collaborative working style, solicits buy-in and commitment from colleagues and stakeholders.
Effective at creating consensus around strategic initiatives utilizing a collaborative, inclusive and engaging decision-making process.
Outstanding inter-personal, presentation, and communications skills.
Ability to work across multiple time zones, countries, and cultures.
