Job Description
As the Director of Platform Engineering you will lead an extraordinary team, develop and hire talent, and run and scale a rigorous operation that consistently ships high-quality software. You will play a small role in the hands-on process of building software, but will play a pivotal one in setting up your team for great outcomes. You will build trust with and develop engineers, plan realistic and ambitious roadmaps with your peers in Product and Design, set the technical and operational direction of our platform, and you'll have a gobs of fun doing it. As it turns out, the people on your team and around you rock.
Responsibilities
Own the technical roadmap and direction for the Platform Engineering team, working closely with Product Management to marry it with our product roadmap and business strategy.
Have weekly 1:1's with direct reports, and have clear professional & technical development roadmaps for everyone on the team.
Run and continuously improve an agile engineering process that hums: a process where engineers have the autonomy and context to do their best work, that promotes shipping frequently and predictably, and uncovers risk.
Lead recruiting and organizational planning for the Platform Engineering team. You will establish hiring goals, interview norms, extend offers, and onboard new members of your team.
Partner closely with the executive team and Senior Director of Engineering to gain context, make sound, independent decisions, and communicate risk and progress.
The Following Might Describe You
8+ years of experience in Software Engineering, with 5+ years of combined technical leading/management experience.
You've played a part in shipping high-quality software systems in individual contributor and management roles and you've scaled them.
You're empathetic. You care about people, and you're motivated by your team's successes.
You're intellectually curious and desire to continuously learn and grow.
You listen more than you speak
... and when you speak, you care about your delivery as much as you do your content.
You check your ego at the door, and you love it when others do, too.
You've made bad decisions. You've made great decisions. You've seen growth. You have stories about it all!
You've owned your decisions, good and bad.
