Job Description
• The EHS Director provides leadership and direction to the business unit for establishing strategies, goals, and action plans that promote the achievement of safe and environmentally sound workplaces throughout the organization.
WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING:
• Develop strategies and programs to ensure that sites can consistently maintain regulatory compliance; monitor, interpret and analyze the business impact of EHS regulatory requirements (legislative and operating permits).
• Act as liaison to site operations with regards to the management of regulatory proposals, permitting negotiations/issues, agency enforcement actions, and EHS related crisis events (fires, injuries, spills, etc.).
• Coordinate global injury prevention strategies and program initiatives to minimize and/or eliminate occupational injuries in order to achieve world class safety performance.
• Investigate occupational injuries, environmental events, compliance deviations and enforcement actions and collaborate with operations to develop solutions to prevent recurrence.
• Ensure that risk assessments are conducted to evaluate EHS operational risk or exposure and verify that appropriate safeguards deployed.
• Work closely with regional and global Operations and Business Leaders to effectively integrate EHS into other business processes. Align EHS resources to support major capital and projects and operational footprint changes on a global basis.
• Support corporate and business unit sustainability initiatives for energy and waste reduction.
• Champion the company solvent safety (PSM) and chemical management programs across global operations.
• Supervise a team of regional EHS Managers; develop and implement EHS programs, initiatives, and metrics to provide EHS standardization and consistency throughout the global network. Coach and mentor the professional development of EHS professionals and develop and maintain a succession plan with “ready now” candidates for the EHS Director and regional EHS Manager roles.
• Participate as member of the corporate EHS Compliance Audit team; lead cross business unit EHS audits and coordinate the development of internal EHS auditors from site locations. Oversee closure of site level audit findings in a timely manner.
• Provide EHS visibility for the Annual Operating Plan (AOP) budget process; align global and regional business unit capital and expense allocations to support EHS compliance and global EHS platform initiatives.

Education:
• Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety or Environmental Engineering (advanced degree is a plus) with
Experience:
•15 years EHS work experience; or Business, Engineering, or technical discipline, with a minimum of ten (10) years EHS experience in a manufacturing environment.
•Experience in manufacturing with emphasis in operations and supply chain and process safety management (PSM); progressive roles in multi-site, regional, and international operations is highly desired.
