Director Engineering Schneider Electric Andover

Job Description
Responsible for providing global R&D leadership and guidance to engineering teams delivering new product solutions. Identifies and supports research projects to bring new viable technology to the product lines. Finalizes product roadmaps for each product line in partnership with respective product line management team and works with each program team to insure schedules are met and overall objectives are achieved.

Manages: R&D management responsibilities for Andover, MA and W. Kingston, RI Engineering teams. Manage 7-10 direct reports including Functional Managers and Senior Staff Engineers for the single phase UPS product lines.

Essential Duties

· Lead engineering team to provide product design creativity and implementation excellence.



· Lead and guide engineering team to research and develop in alignment with project plans and new market opportunities.



· Lead and guide team to develop and execute technical assignments in accordance with development processes and best design practices.



· Lead and guide team to provide invention disclosures and support of patent development.



· Interact with product management, sales, and customers to learn and integrate market and customer requirements into new product solution plans.



· Lead and guide team to keep a ranked portfolio of new product solution and value engineering concepts.



· Interact with Software team to provide a total product solution.



· Interact with Manufacturing to understand production needs for the new product design.



· Oversee adherence to Compliance and Regulatory requirements.



· Responsible for final approval for staffing project teams.



· Provide direction for overall staffing and technical training.



· Oversee Design Reviews.



· Provide operating & capital expense budgets; responsible for adherence to budgets.



· Participate in continuously improving corporate ITB processes.



· Support value engineering and continuous improvement activities managed by operations.



· Provide resources and technical guidance to field quality team on an escalation basis.

Qualifications



BSEE; MSEE or MBA preferred.



7 yrs experience managing a R&D team (15+ people) and interfacing with Product Mgmt/Mktg.



8-10 years experience as a design engineer for new products.



10 years experience in electronics manufacturing company.



5 years experience working with off site resources.



4 years experience as a project manager.

Knowledge of power electronics topology and control techniques; Systems engineering methods; Strong leadership skills; Strong knowledge of new product development process; project management; Supplier selection process; Resource development; Intellectual property assessment and selection; Experience working for multinational companies; Self-starter, high motivation to deliver, highly creative and innovative; Excellent verbal and written communication skills.


Physical/ Mental Requirements: Think globally and communicate effectively at all levels. Domestic and international travel as needed.
