Roles and Responsibilities
This position requires extensive knowledge of network routing protocols, software development process and software infrastructure. We are seeking an experienced network routing technologist and leader who is on his/her way up the network software engineering ranks. The position requires a deep understanding of the software development process, extensive knowledge of network routing protocols and software infrastructure, as well as management experience. The ideal candidate will have managed a multi-geography development team of 150+ with the ability to drive acceptance for difficult decisions in a global and matrix organization.
The most suitable candidate should have a proven track record of setting strategy and delivering high-quality software that drives the core routing software architecture for Cisco's current products. In addition to executing the current routing software program roadmap, this individual will also be responsible for driving the long-term architectural evolution and vision for Cisco's routing products, including the integration of Open-Source software technologies.

● Work collaboratively across the organization on an architecture that will continue to span Cisco's broad product portfolio and allow different business and technology groups to achieve their distinct goals. Provide an open leadership style to work effectively across the many constituents required for success in this role.
Research and Development
● Develop the overarching and longer-term strategy for Cisco's routing software and infrastructure - across an increasingly diverse and global product portfolio.
● Leverage the depth of a distributed and global research and development organization.
● Maintain focus and consistency to execute current initiatives while also capturing and overseeing longer-term development initiatives.
● Define the routing roadmap, how it will extend across the Cisco product line, and how it will harness the potential of the Open Source software movement - strategic initiatives to be developed and delivered in a global environment.
● Oversee the allocation of time and resources for research and development efforts to advance the business.
Business Operations
● Drive substantial global development resources to ensure delivery of the roadmap that indirectly drives billions of dollars of Cisco revenues and performance globally.
● Manage the portfolio and agreeing on the development schedule, product definition, product development, product launches, cost control, etc.
● Hire superior talent.
Minimum Qualifications
● 15+ years of software development experience, with a strong track record of leadership in technology strategy and product delivery
● 7+ years of leadership experience
● Superb intellectual and technical depth, strong executive presence, and a communication style that conveys expertise and instils confidence
● Comprehensive understanding of the complexities of running a technology business, i.e. understanding the markets and customers involved, knowledge of the competitive landscape, awareness of gaps in the market, and knowledge of product lifecycle management in this space
● Experience with the NoSQL Databases, Java, Linux, and Cloud technology market is a must
● Foundational understanding of the networking equipment space is preferred
● Bachelor’s in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or other related technical field is required and a graduate degree is preferred
Desired Skills and Competencies
● Proficient with the following technologies: AWS EC2, docker, Cassandra, Redis, JSON, Java, Web2.0, Chef, Web2.0, PostGres, REST, NoSQL, Kafka, CentOS, Splunk, Apache, DevOps, IaaS/PaaS, Openstack, Oauth, BLE, WiFi
● Experience with Agile Development Methodology
● History of success envisioning and executing market-disruptive technologies and products
● Experience leading and flat, Agile, fast paced and geographically distributed software development teams
● Success in estimating project resource requirements, managing product delivery schedules, and anticipating/mitigating associated risks in a complex development environment;
● Experience organizing the development function for growth in highly-competitive markets, where capitalizing on strategic opportunities dictates short product lifecycles and flexible/adaptable product architectures
● Demonstrated success mentoring junior engineering managers, as well as senior technical talent
● Ability to balance big-picture product vision with an approach that is process-oriented with detailed execution at all times
● Responsible for the group’s technical strategy and road map – creating success metrics in close collaboration with other Engineering and Product Managers
● Strong perspective that drives change and motivates engineers to develop simple solutions to complex problems
● Works with tech leads and senior engineers to gather system requirements, gut checks new feature proposals and large system improvements
● Technical capacity to partner with tech leads and is comfortable diving into the fray to help drive resolution in the case of bad incidents
● Track record of continuously improving product development processes to shorten release cycles and improve time-to-market for new products
